WILD animals can be found in various habitats, including forests, fields, and even near human settlements like schools and homes. It's essential to educate children about the significance of wildlife and encourage them to observe wild creatures in their natural environments.

The first Saturday of each month is ⚾National Play Outside Day⚽

Looking for something easy to do? Try a 🌈Color Walk 🌈 It’s a great way to explore your neighborhood.

1. Decide on a color.
2. Observe your surroundings until you spot your color, then walk in that direction.
3. Continue to follow your color around your neighborhood.
4. Stop when you end up somewhere cool!

The National Wildlife Refuge System is a hot spot for wildlife but also a place for people to hunt, fish, reconnect with the natural world, view wildlife and so much more.

We are proposing to open and expand hunting and fishing opportunities at twelve national wildlife refuges!

See the comments for details on this exciting announcement.

The final quote in this week's series to honor Earth Day, this one comes from Ainsley Arment:

"In an era when our lives are becoming more digitized by the day, our children
need time to explore the natural world. They need contact with living things, fresh air in their lungs, and an understanding of what sustains them.

Let's take them outside, let them explore and thrive and breathe the fresh air. Let's encourage them to connect with nature and honor the earth.

Phenology, put simply, is the study of nature’s calendar - the arrival of spring blossoms 🌸, the timing of bird migration 🐦, the first appearance of buds on trees 🌱 - and how they all relate to each other. While it may seem like an advanced skill, anyone can observe changes in nature, beginning at a young age!

In celebration of Phenology Week (March 18-22), we’ll be sharing ideas for observing nature with young kids! Keep an eye on our stories next week for daily activities from USA - National Phenology Network!
