How can your child continue exploring their creativity through the summer? Throw a sketchbook (most students brought one home at the end of the year) along with a flair pen or pencil and markers into your bag on any road trip or outing. A blank piece of paper necessitates that the child look around them, or into their imagination, to explore and wonder.
Make some messy art outdoors: chalk drawings, tie-dye t-shirts, melting crayons, bubble painting, then hose down afterwards.
Pack a picnic and take a trip to Storm King Art Center, a 500-acre outdoor sculpture museum in New York’s Hudson Valley.
Escape inside to one of the world-class air-conditioned galleries we’re surrounded by, like MoMA or The Metropolitan Museum of Art, both with family rooms with fun activities.
If your child (or you) are glued to their phone, spark them to use it as a creative tool, perhaps by trying a 30-day photo challenge.
Have a great summer!

Victoria was accepted into Hoboken High, Franklin, and Little Red Irwin. She loved each school, but Victoria felt Franklin School was calling her name. She gladly accepted. She would like to continue learning about art and language arts. She would like to thank Mr. Harris for steering her toward writing. Victoria would love to thank her amazingly talented art teacher, Mrs. Buckley. She would also like to thank Ms. Hernandez, a teacher she had in fourth grade.
Although Victoria is excited about her new school, she is also sad about leaving the Mustard Seed School, the place that cared for her all these years. Victoria is excited about entering a new environment full of friends and a new beginning. Victoria looks forward to the Micro-Electives that Franklin offers. She is also looking forward to a change of scenery!
Congratulations, Victoria!
Victoria spends her time doing art, writing, and can regularly be found joking around. She loves how amazing Mustard Seed School has been to her. It offered so much including many different traditions Victoria loved. Victoria is grateful for the experience Mustard Seed School gave her. She came to Mustard Seed School in kindergarten and was immediately welcomed by teachers, staff, and students. After spending some time with the community she found out that Mustard Seed School would be a place she could get used to.
Victoria is a hard worker, always thinking one step ahead. Victoria has a fondness for art and loves to draw, paint, and focus on other mediums. Victoria is especially thankful for her family who have always been so supportive of her.

Congratulations, Tristan!
Tristan is excited to attend Saint Peter's Preparatory School in the fall of 2024. Something he is excited about is their athletics program. He has played sports for over a decade and he doesn't plan to stop anytime soon. Tristan hopes to take his talents to Saint Peters’ soccer team! His passion for sports has influenced him to be a good leader and he also knows how to come together with a group to achieve a united goal. As a Goalkeeper he has to direct his team throughout the whole game. His dreams of becoming a professional soccer player have given him the confidence to do other things such as take time out of his day to practice and perfect his skill to become the best version of himself.
Something Tristan struggled with is focusing on his work and procrastinating. At Mustard Seed School he has become a more focused student with the help of his amazing teachers. Mr. Harris has helped him so much with his writing and Mr. Choi with his math. There are so many things he is grateful for from his teachers that it would be impossible to list them all.
Tristan has always tried to be the nicest he could be even with the smallest things. As he leaves MSS he hopes that he has left his mark that it takes nothing to be kind to someone. He hopes to become a symbol of kindness to those around him.
All the experiences he has had with his classmates have come together to be the best eight years of his life. He will dearly miss the opportunities of being able to help out and learn with such excitement, and he hopes to find other outlets to do just that. He wants to thank all his teachers who have taught him to be the best version of himself.

Congratulations, Sophie!
Sophie is attending York Prep in New York City next year. Sophie is excited to meet new people, make new friends, and try new things like volleyball. While Sophie liked the small size of Mustard Seed School, she is excited to be in New York City and experience a new environment at a bigger school.
When Sophie first came to Mustard Seed she was really shy and reserved. She was scared to talk and read out loud because she tended to stumble on her words and was not the best reader. As the years went, she grew stronger with reading out loud and speaking in front of people; Sophie turned into a very outgoing person. The Mustard Seed community taught her to be brave and learn to be more confident in who she is.
Looking back at Sophie's time at Mustard Seed, one thing that sticks out is all the fun projects she did. One of her favorites was the Science Exhibition where Sophie and two of her classmates made ice cream using different types of milk. Sophie had so much fun doing this project and it is one of her most memorable projects at Mustard Seed because of how enjoyable it was and how much she learned while doing it.
Sophie will miss Mustard Seed for many reasons. Every teacher Mustard Seed has made Sophie's time here amazing and has made her a stronger individual, not only in the classroom but outside school as well. However, Sophie is very excited to meet new people and to be a part of a new school community and will make sure to bring the kindness and positivity she learned at Mustard Seed along with her.

Congratulations, River!
Hi! My name is River. I don't exactly know where I will go after graduating from Mustard Seed School, but I have a general plan. I’ve always been interested in art and writing, and I am hoping to spend a lot of time working on these skills next year. I am also interested in animation, but that may be something that I work on later in life. For the rest of this profile, I am supposed to write about myself in third person, so I decided to have some of the characters I created over the last couple years for various MSS projects write the next few paragraphs.
River
River has struggled and faltered many a time; but when he does, he does not spend a lot of time looking back; instead he looks forward to the future promised to him, promised to us. He pulls himself up, and says, “the show must go on.”
Etch
River has many ideas, many stories to tell. He has created characters and worlds, but can’t always figure out a way to share them. He needs to find a way to share these ideas of his, and he shall work to overcome it. River loves to create and hopes to continue leaning into this creativity next year as he moves on to the next stage of his educational career.
Boff
River will miss this place. He made so many memories here; he made friends, and some friends moved away; River found parts of himself that he might have never found otherwise. He grew into himself here, the version of him we know now at least. He saw this place out to its end, but he will never forget it.

Congratulations, London!
London is looking forward to his freshman year at Saint Peter’s Preparatory School with a Sheehan Scholarship. This scholarship offers many unique educational and cultural opportunities and covers his four years of tuition.
Saint Peter’s offers a variety of sports and extracurricular activities that have piqued London’s interest, including the soccer team, service projects, and international programs. He has also always had a passion for math and is especially looking forward to taking Honors Geometry next year. Additionally, Prep offers many interesting exchange programs abroad, which he is hoping to experience.
London began his Mustard Seed journey in kindergarten, and he’s grateful to all of his teachers who have helped him along the way. He credits Mr. Choi and Mr. Lawrence for his success and enjoyment in math, as they accelerated his learning experience with a new understanding of the subject. He will also never forget his amazing homeroom teachers these past three years: Ms. McCallihan, Mr. Harris, and Mr. Martino. He appreciates their warmth, humor, and dedication. Finally, London has always loved music, and Ms. Mauldin and PROS have given him a chance to grow his musical and leadership skills.
As London is transitioning into high school, he’s begun to realize how unique Mustard Seed is. One example of this is how every Friday the 4th-8th grades head to Pier C for park and lunch. Students always start up a soccer game, with the usual teams being four 8th-grade vs. everyone else participating, including the teachers. This is always a highlight of his week, and he’ll miss these games next year.
Mustard Seed School provided London a special community that helped him mature into the person he is today, and he will always remember the friendships and memories he made at Mustard Seed.

Congratulations, James!
James is excited to attend Hudson Catholic High School next year. James is eager to begin this new chapter of his life; however, he is sad that he will no longer be with the friends he met over the last nine years at Mustard Seed. James is looking forward to the new friends he will make at Hudson Catholic and also the classes and extracurriculars, like basketball, Model UN, and world history.
James has been a part of the Mustard Seed School since kindergarten. Over the past nine years, James has learned many life skills, such as how to help others and build community. At Mustard Seed, students create an atmosphere that cultivates the will to help others and build community. In 7th grade, James had an experience where he could help others and build community at the park. James and friends were on their way to play basketball when they encountered an elderly man down on both knees, rubbing through some leaves as if trying to find something. It turns out that the man lost his grandfather's ring. James and his friends got down to help, and after fifteen minutes, one of the students found the ring.
As James moves on to a new adventure in his life, he hopes to make a difference in the world. He hopes to one day become a lawyer and fight on behalf of those wrongly accused.
Overall, James is happy to graduate from Mustard Seed School and is looking forward to what awaits him at Hudson Catholic.

Congratulations, Devin!
Devin has been accepted into Xavier High School, Seton Hall Preparatory, and Saint Peter’s Preparatory. Ultimately, Devin decided to go to Saint Peter’s Preparatory.
Devin began his journey at Mustard Seed School in Pre-K and is grateful for all of his teachers and all of the friends he met along the way. Mustard Seed has taught Devin lots of valuable life skills that he will never forget. Mustard Seed has also taught Devin how to excel outside of school. Sports have been a very important part of Devin’s life. Mustard Seed has taught Devin how to become a good teammate whether on the field or in the classroom.
As Devin begins to transition into high school, he has begun to take time to reflect on all of the unique experiences that changed him into the person he is today. An example of this is when Mustard Seed classes 6th through 8th take a trip to Spruce Lake in the fall. At Spruce Lake Devin and his classmates took part in many adventures in the beautiful nature surrounding them. After each activity, Devin and his classmates would gather and see how the experience correlates to their everyday lives. Devin learned a lot from this and also grew a lot closer to those who surrounded him.
Devin is thankful for his time at Mustard Seed School and excited to take his academic and emotional skills with him to the next stage of his educational career.

Congratulations, Bridget!
Bridget has enjoyed her time at Mustard Seed School, but is looking forward to attending Franklin High School in the fall. She is eager to experience a new community and new opportunities.
Reflecting on her journey at Mustard Seed School, Bridget can see how much she has improved over her time at this school. She recalls that on her first day of school, she was one of the most shy kids who entered the room; yet as the years passed, she slowly but surely got rid of that shyness due to her loving community and supportive teachers. Bridget has embraced opportunities to step out of her comfort zone, gaining the confidence to share her opinion and present in front of both small and large groups.
Bridget has been at Mustard Seed School for a long time. Bridget carries her deep desire to lead and serve others. She has been inspired by the leadership she witnessed among her peers and wants to follow in their footsteps, hoping to be a guide and support to others. Bridget has learned to serve others and lead those around her.
Bridget will miss a lot of things, but the thing she’ll miss most is her school community. She’ll miss the warmth and kindness she felt at this school and the lifelong friends gained during her stay. Every morning when she arrived at school, Ms. McCalliahan, Señora Oro-Hahn, and Ms. Mauldin would greet her with a smile on their faces. For Bridget, the tiniest things have the most impact. She’ll miss those mornings when her day wasn't going well and her teachers greeted her with such love. Bridget treasures the memories of those heartwarming interactions, knowing that they have shaped her into the person she is today.
