THIS is an image of our current social media landscape...
People sharing all kinds of information, foolishly BELIEVING they are sharing "truth". I say, you have been deceived by the evil puppet master(s).
I've recently been confronting and challenging numerous people, some of whom I had great respect for, because they fell into the trap I am about to expose a bit below.
There are some important factors you MUST consider before you get all hyped up on a post, if you care to live in TRUTH.
⚠️ FIRST, today's social media landscape REWARDS clicks, views, and watch time.
What does this mean?
It means that social media channels and content creators get PAID MORE MONEY when they get more clicks, views, and watchtime? Why? They run ads on their videos, they may have products to sell, they get paid to run promotions, and the list goes on.
What this ALSO means is that they are HIGHLY INCENTIVIZED to put out content that is more likely to go "viral".
What kind of content goes "viral". All kinds, but you can be sure that POLARIZING conspiracy theory type content that plays on human emotions (especially where people already feel victimized) is one of them.
So, sad as it may be, there are people DELIBERATELY manipulating content and narratives to create POLARIZATION because it increases the likelihood of people SHARING this content and COMMENTING on it. This rewards the content creator.
⚠️ SECOND, people are out here simply looking for more AGREEMENT around their own particular narratives to feel more "right" and make others "wrong". This is a neurological and biochemical addiction that often goes unnoticed, and is cause for tremendous damage in relationships.
Addicts never admit they are addicts when in an active addiction. They justify it, excuse it, and don't see it as a problem at all.. Don't be deceived like this... check yourself honestly.
⚠️ THIRD, there are politically motivated campaigns which include POLARIZATION MISINFORMATION designed to sway your opinion to whichever political side the polarizing content was intended to lead people to more likely vote for. A company called Cambridge Analytical was found guilty of using Facebook datapoints to deliberately manipulate the public for the purpose of forcing POLITICAL BIAS in numerous countries around the world. YES, this HAPPENED, and you can be SURE it still is.
Here's a short summary from Roger Ebert's take on the documentary. I've seen it twice, but this captures some VERY important points:
"This is sure to be a controversial documentary, not just because it sees Brexit and the GOP Presidential campaign involvement with Cambridge Analytica as a sinister, almost military-grade level of psychological warfare against an unsuspecting public, but because it also highlights how large groups of people can easily be led to vote against their own interests.
There’s a too-brief section focusing on the “Do So” campaign in Trinidad and Tobago, where social media was flooded with catchy graphics and slogans designed to foster apathy in folks who would vote for the side not allegedly in cahoots with Cambridge. The Do So campaign made it seem cool not to vote at all, so many young people did not. Before you start jumping on the bandwagon of spreading MISINFORMATION and become a PUPPET for a hidden and corrupt PUPPET MASTER, think twice... In fact, think MORE than twice.
Learn how to MEASURE data effectively, OR, you risk being USED.
You BECOME A BATTERY IN THE MATRIX, and what's worse? You believe you are fighting it! Instead, YOU ARE THE MATRIX... the very blinding agents you naively think you are fighting against.. Don't be fooled.
