The Missions Practicum class consisted of cooking over a fire in one pot with limited supplies. The class was divided into 3 groups and had to make a list of ingredients to complete their meal. They had limited supplies and an hour and a half to complete the task. They did great, and the meals turned out amazing!

This past weekend various members of the department and a couple of other students from HSBC participated in another ministry weekend with the Florida GMC churches.

On Friday afternoon one group of us drove up to Summerfield, FL to stay with Pastor Jeff Stratton. We were up early Saturday morning to help with a prayer station at a local flea market. We passed out free water bottles, coffee, and doughnuts. There were opportunities to pray with and talk to some of the people passing through. That afternoon and evening we went calling in several neighborhoods. On Sunday morning we were privileged to worship with the Summerfield church people and minister through special music.

Meanwhile Mr. Young drove another group of students to Orlando on Saturday afternoon. In Orlando we went calling, but were prevented from doing much because of the rain. One of the students stayed in Orlando for Sunday morning to play the piano for the service.

The rest of the group headed over to Seffner, FL, and had the opportunity to fellowship with the people of that church. One of the students taught Sunday School, and others presented a special song. We also got to share about our recent trip to Brazil.

We praise God for safety on the roads and all of the opportunities we had to shine Jesus' light! Please pray for each person we got to interact with, whether by giving out free doughnuts or leaving a invitation to church at their door. God is working in Florida, and we are privileged to play a small part in what He is doing!

During the recent Intercultural Studies trip to Manaus and Manacapuru, Brazil, we were privileged to watch God move in powerful ways! Several were saved from their sins, and another person rededicated their life to Christ.

We were blessed to partner with Stephen and Kezia Mills, who have ministered with the New York Pilgrim Missions in Brazil for 15 years, and with Pastor Arilson, President of the Pilgrim churches in Brazil. These relationships gave the department students a front-row seat to the mission of God. Several students received confirmation or direction for their calling to missions, and many grew in ways that cannot be achieved in the classroom.

The trip was more than enjoying the Amazon’s beauty and culture or seeing tangible results; it was about being a part of God’s mission for the world, preparing students for a deeper level of cross-cultural ministry, and connecting their classroom knowledge with real-life application.

The department is deeply grateful to each of our donors and those who supported us in making this life-changing trip possible. Thank you to each person who invested in this generation of cross-cultural workers!

This trailer that shares the story of what God is doing in Brazil! Stay tuned for the full video, which will be released on October 17.

Team Brazil has made it safely back to Hobe Sound! Here’s a recap of the team’s last few days in Manacapuru.

Tuesday we left Manaus and traveled to Manacapuru where the Mills currently minister. Crossing the river with 30+ people and luggage was an exciting experience! That evening, God came in a powerful way in the Tuesday night prayer service. Testimony after testimony was given, and a young man gave his heart to the Lord!

Wednesday we had the opportunity to visit the English School in Manacapuru. We played games to practice English and listened to some of the students stories. That night we had a youth event with the youth group of Manakaperu. It was a wonderful evening of playing volleyball, praising God, testifying, and eating good food. We praise God for how He is working in each young persons life!

Thursday morning we worked on work projects and planning services for that afternoon and evening. That afternoon we had a children’s service at the Japanese community, and an evening service at 7pm.

Friday we started to pack and prepare for our last children’s service. It was held on the Mill’s front porch. Afterwards we played games and served a small snack. That evening we spent finishing packing up and saying our goodbyes. It was a long but full day of God’s presence and faithfulness.

Friday night at 9:30pm we started crossing the river to head back to Manaus to go to the airport. We said our final goodbyes to the Monterio family and Mr. Stephen Mills at the airport, and flew out at 3:40am.

We arrived back to campus at 4:12pm on Saturday, tired but full of gratefulness for how God worked on this trip.

Thank you to each and everyone who prayed for us, gave towards the trip, and encouraged us along the way. Thank you to the Mills family for hosting us and giving us a small glimpse of ministry in Brazil.

Praise the Lord for the great things He has done!

Greetings from Brazil!
On Sunday morning, our team had the opportunity to visit the Monte Pascoal church in Manaus. The team prepared a soccer themed VBS, which we presented in the morning Sunday school. It was a service full of worship as different members shared what God placed on their heart.
After service we had breakfast and fellowship with the church congregation. Coloring pages and volleyballs were pulled out while we all waited on lunch.

Sunday evening, our team visited the Nova Floresta Church, where Mr Jaron Sickler shared the evening message. Afterwards, we had a wonderful evening of fellowship, having good conversations, and meeting old and new friends.

Monday was a day for sightseeing, and seeing God’s beautiful nature in the Amazon basin. We saw pink dolphins, the meeting of the rivers, and even sentinel trees, which are the largest trees in the Amazon rainforest.

Monday evening we had a time of fellowship over Brazilian pizza, and sharing how the Lord is working in our in lives.

The Lord has truly been working and blessing each of us! Please pray as we pack up to leave the city and travel to the interior on Tuesday. We will be traveling with the Mills to another place of ministry.

After departing campus at noon on Friday, our team arrived safely in Manaus at 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning. We are thankful to God for helping the airport process go smoothly, including our connecting flight. After a short rest, the morning was spent in orientation, and the afternoon was spent in service preparations.

We participated in our first youth service this evening, during which several students shared their testimonies, and Tyrese Hazoum brought a heartfelt youth devotional. God’s presence was felt during that service.

We are deeply grateful to the Mills and their selfless endeavors to make this trip memorable and beneficial for God’s Kingdom. The team is getting some much-needed rest before heading out tomorrow morning to do children's ministry. Please continue to pray for God’s presence and power in each of our services.

As the Intercultural Studies Department we are dedicated to living out HSBC's motto, Knowing Christ and Making Him Known! We have a growing group of individuals passionate about sharing the gospel cross-culturally. Our department started this new school year with a short meeting to introduce our five new members and discuss what this semester is going to hold for us!

We are praying for God's strength and blessing throughout this year!
