2021-22 class assignment letters are in the mail! Each letter represents the promise of a lifelong relationship filled with care and the push to help our children better their best! We can't wait to see the smiles of our students as they see who their teachers will be this year! See you August 23rd for the first day of school!

Fall After School Enrichment Opportunities
Athletics
Football tryouts are August 16th-20th from 3:30-5:30. (A bus will be available for pick-up and drop off at JAH. Pick-up-3:00, Drop-off- 6:00)

Soccer tryouts will begin on August 30th. (More info to come)

Volleyball tryouts will begin on August 24th. (More info to come)

Cheerleading tryouts will be August 16th from 3:30-5:00(A bus will be available for pick-up and drop off at JAH. Pick-up-3:00, Drop-off- 6:00)

(Other sports will be added as their season approaches. These include, basketball, track, wrestling, baseball, softball, and cross country)

The Arts
After School Guitar Club- (Guitar provided)- Sign-ups are August 23rd-27th.

Jazz Band- Coming in the spring! (after school club)

Band Interest Instrument Petting Zoo- August 16th from 1:00-3:00 on the CMS front lawn. (If you are a rising 6th grader and interested in joining the Bulldog Band, this is the meeting for you!!! You will have the opportunity to experiment with different instruments and find the right fit! Interested 7th and 8th graders are welcome too!!!)

Academics
Battle of the Books- Sign Ups- August 23rd - September 3rd

Odyssey of the Mind- OM is a creative problem solving program involving students from kindergarten through college. Team members work together at length to solve a predefined long term problem and present their solution at competition in February. If you love to think out of the box, this team is for you!!! Sign ups begin August 23rd. The team will meet at least once per week after school. Time and day TBA-

History Day Club- This club is for those interested in research, history, and projects! Each year, National History Day frames students’ research within a historical theme. The theme is chosen for broad application to world, national, or state history and its relevance to ancient history or to the more recent past. The 2021-2022 theme is Debate & Diplomacy in History: Successes, Failure, Consequences. The club actually competes at a competition held at a university. Sign-ups run August 23rd through September 3rd.

Northeast Regional Science Fair- Calling all CMS Scientists! We will prepare once a week after school to create a project in the following categories; Biological Science A: Animal Science, medicine & human health, microbiology
.
Biological Science B: Behavioral & social Science, biochemistry, cellular & molecular biology, plant Science
.
Chemistry: Science of the composition, structure, properties, and reactions of matter, especially of atomic and molecular systems
.
Earth/Environmental Science: Geology, mineralogy, physiography, oceanography, meteorology, climatology, environmental science
.
Physics: Science of matter and energy and of interactions between the two at various levels
. Technology, Engineering: Application of scientific principles to manufacturing and practical uses.

Projects can be submitted as an individual or as a team (2 or 3 students) per project. Each Regional Fair can nominate two entries from each of the six categories for the State level NC Science and Engineering Fair. Sign-ups August 23rd through September 3rd.

Women in Mathematics- The Celebration of Women in Mathematics consists of a program of workshops, talks, and math competitions for middle/high school girls and their teachers. The purpose of the program is to encourage young women to continue their study of mathematics and to raise the level of mathematics competency in Northeastern North Carolina. Sign-ups will be August 23rd through September 3rd.
