🤔 What does it mean to serve at the state level?

● It means bringing the voice and experiences of your local community to a statewide table.
● It means collaborating with leaders from across Tennessee, supporting local units and councils, strengthening family engagement, and helping shape the future of our association.
● It means advocating for children and families beyond the walls of your own school.
● But most importantly, it means bringing what YOU do well to the table.

We need leaders with different experiences, perspectives, skills, backgrounds, and strengths. You don’t have to know everything about PTA to have something valuable to contribute.

Have you ever wondered, “Could I serve at the state level?” Maybe the answer is yes! 💙

The Nominating & Leadership Development Committee [NLDC] is accepting interest forms for the 2027–2029 Board of Directors through November 1.

PTA Myth #3: “I don’t have time for PTA.”

If your calendar is already full of work, school pickups, appointments, and a dinner you haven’t figured out yet—we understand!

You don’t have to attend every meeting or volunteer at every event to be a PTA member. Joining is a meaningful way to support your school community, even when your schedule leaves little room for anything else.

Some seasons allow you to lend a hand. In others, becoming a member is what you can offer. Both matter, and there’s a place for you in either season.

Connect. Care. Create change.

Want to help your student succeed in the classroom? It doesn’t always start with more studying. Some of the most meaningful support happens in the everyday moments at home.

💬 Ask more than “How was school?” Try: “What was something interesting you learned today?” or “Was anything hard today?”

⏰ Create routines. Consistent mornings, homework time, and bedtimes can help students arrive ready to learn.

📖 Read together—or simply let them see YOU reading. Building a culture of learning at home matters at every age.

🙋 Encourage them to ask for help. Remind your student that questions aren’t a sign they’re struggling—they’re part of learning.

🍎 Protect the basics. Sleep, breakfast, movement, and downtime all play a role in how students show up in the classroom.

🤝 Stay connected with their teachers. You don’t have to wait until there’s a problem to build that relationship.

And perhaps most importantly, remind your student that their worth is bigger than a grade on a paper. Celebrate effort, growth, perseverance, kindness, curiosity, and the courage to keep trying!

Families and schools are stronger when we work together.

PTA Myth #2: “PTA is just for moms.”

Dads, grandparents, caregivers, educators, and community members—there’s a place for you here, too!

You don’t have to be a mom—or even a parent—to care about a child’s future. Strong school communities need different perspectives, experiences, and ideas. Yours could be exactly what’s missing from the conversation.

Whether you have a child in the classroom or simply want to support the children in your community, you’re invited to help make a difference.

Connect. Care. Create change.
