Have you ever heard of an Anki remote? I hadn’t either until I was scrolling on med. school TikTok the other day and there was a video of a medical student flying through flashcards at their home, at the gym, on their TV, and more using a little game controller no larger than your palm. After doing a little research, I discovered that Anki is a remote that kind of looks like a Nintendo switch game controller, and it allows students to program and study more complicated, personalized flashcards on their computers. After making each flashcard deck, students can then run through all of the cards with their Anki controller from anywhere, allowing students the versatility to study wherever and whenever they would like to in a game-like format. A great way to keep kids accountable for their learning is with the FREE app, Forest. Forest purposely locks students out of their phones for a time period of their choosing so they can work without distractions. If they study for the amount of time that they chose, they can add trees to their Forest app and grow the ones they already have. If they don’t finish their study time, then they loose out on growing their forest. So be the Lorax when studying—save those trees!

It's been up and running for a month or so now, but have you been to the Hinsdale Farmers Market?
Every Monday, June thru October, farmers from all over will line Chicago Ave, between Garfield & Washington, with booths of fresh produce and unique finds from their farms and stores.
It's a great way to support local farmers, businesses, and try out some new products.

WOW has it been hot and dry this summer.
That means it's the perfect time for some water games. Nothing beats a good ol' sprinkler and hose, but I wouldn't say no to a pool either. No need to get elaborate. A good game of Red Light, Green Light, Freeze Tag, or Sharks and Minnows under the spray of a hose is the perfect way to beat the heat this week.

Today is a day of celebration for our country.
However, that celebration does come at a cost. Not just for the men and women who fight for our freedom, but also for those who have been excluded from freedoms through the years. Take the time to share your stories with others and more importantly, take the time to listen and learn.

This week is the PERFECT time to make homemade popsicles! All the red, white, and blue themed treats are just waiting for you to put them together. In our house we like to include fruit. Hello blueberries and strawberries! Not sure where to start? just grab some juice, a paper or plastic cup, and a stick or straw if you have them. Toss them in the freezer and give it some time.
Looking for something more elaborate? Head to the library or Google of course.

It's 4th of July week and there is no better time to bring out the s'mores supplies!
How does your family take their smores?
Burnt? Golden Brown?
What do you use for layering?
I found a flat Reese's cup that has been the perfect addition to a s'more.

Truth be told I haven't done a family talent show as an adult. However, when I was a kid, my siblings, cousins, and I would put on elaborate talent shows. Costumes, dances, music, etc. We had so much fun trying new things, creating our own scripts, and genuinely being the star of our own shows. There is so much power in encouraging your child to try something outside of their comfort zone. And what better way to do that then model for them how much fun it can be.

Make sure to tag us when your family struts their stuff this summer in a talent show of their own.

We talk a LOT about the benefits of a book club, but have you thought to do one as a family? Even if you have readers of different ages and stages, it can be done. The most important thing is that you talk about the story!
Share what you loved, what you didn't.
What would you have done as a character.
Do you like the illustrations?
Are there recipes or projects mentioned in the book you could try?
Book clubs are not just for school. They start right at home.
