You've seen our students build model rockets and mini golf holes...how about some trebuchets to wrap up our summer of STEM? 🏰

In another perfect collaboration between our Innovation Center and the woodshop, students learned about the physics behind trebuchets and what it takes to build one that is sturdy, powerful, and accurate. They learned to troubleshoot when the construction wasn't quite right, and ended the class having built something they could be proud of.

💙 The Heart of Derby Athletics 💙

The Derby Athletics program aims to create an environment where our students are excited to come to practice and games every day. We understand how much middle school students have on their plates, so we strive to provide an athletic environment that serves as an outlet while also encouraging them to try new things.

Next year, we can't wait to welcome our fifth graders into Derby's athletics family through the Grade 5 Intramural Athletics Program while our sixth through eighth graders continue to lead the way with sportsmanship and skill!

We love welcoming young alumni back on campus—it's a reminder of how impactful the Derby is even for those who have not yet travelled far from Burditt Ave.

Events like Field Day bring alums back to reignite their and reminisce on their own Derbies vs. Toppers days. We appreciate young alums who speak on our Turkey Day Panel to help ease our eighth graders' transition to high school, and our teachers always look forward to the chance to check in with our most recent graduates and hear all about the paths they've taken in ninth grade at the Reunion that follows. And we're especially proud when alums ask to speak with current students at Morning Meeting about a cause that's important to them.

Our students never fail to impress us with their endless creativity across mediums and subject matters. Their work is always a delight, from their first brush strokes in Pre-Kindergarten to their explorations in sewing and woodshop to the numerous masterpieces they create across disciplines in Grade 8.
