Young hitters should learn how to dominate the fastball before becoming obsessed with trying to hit off-speed. A strong foundation starts with being able to handle velocity in different parts of the zone. Learning how to hit to all parts of the field at a consistent level will instantly put you ahead of your competition.

Failure is not a sign that development has stopped. Baseball exposes players to failure more than any sport. This makes controlling your emotions and learning how to manage failure a huge part in the game. Give your players room to fail and be disappointed, then help them understand the lesson that is being taught in the moment. How you bounce back after failure means more than failing.

Failure is part of the game, learn to be comfortable with it.

Situational hitting is one of the fastest ways to become valuable to a team. Moving a runner, producing a sacrifice fly, or simply putting the ball in play during certain situations won’t necessary juice your stats, but it wins games. Great hitters understand what the team needs to win.

If you want to play a long time in this game, you learn how to be a team player as soon as possible.
