Today marked the last day for the Northern Lights regional competition for our robotics team. Looking to build on our momentum from yesterday, team 5720 set out to earn victories in our final 3 qualifying matches to try to keep up with higher ranked teams. After losing the first match today 55-68, we were able to finish our final 2 matches of the day with a 67-66 point win and a convincing 101-79 point victory. Keys to the winning match ups were some slick driving skills provided by senior Devyn Klar.
This gave Jagobotics a record of 6-3-0 on the weekend, and we earned ourselves 18th place out of 60 teams participating in the regional. Unfortunately for us, that left us out of reach of the top 8 spots which get to decide final alliance selections. Final alliance selections are the precursor to playoffs (think fantasy football draft esque picking and choosing), while we waited and hoped to get picked, we were not selected for the playoffs. Leaving the DECC in Duluth with our heads held high, this was the highest ranked team that Hinckley-Finlayson has ever produced in the history of our now 8 year old program. Hat's off to seniors Bryan Blowers, Keanne Crisologo, Devyn Klar, Dylan Googins, Brody Froehling and Bella Ziegler on capping off a successful senior season. These 6 have a bright future ahead of themselves, and they will be missed. If you see them this week, give them a salute and a congratulations!
After 56 straight hours with each other and robots, the team made it home safely. Hopefully, we've earned some much needed rest.
