Sea Surveying, Training, And Response Squad
SeaSTARS is a scientific diving program that allows graduates of MOP's QUEST Field School to practice their scientific diving skills.

On September 16th, the SeaSTARS hosted a calibration snorkel at the Student Life Center pool so student could practice and test their surveying skills using fish and coral props! The event doubled as a welcoming event for our new SeaSTARS diving recruits who will now be joining us in the field!

On September 16th, the UH Hilo MOP SeaSTARS (Sea Surveying, Training, and Response Squad) kicked off the school year with a calibration snorkel for our new diving recruits! The calibration snorkel allowed our veteran divers and our newest SeaSTARS additions to test their surveying skills on fish and coral props for excellent science diving practice!
This weekend, many of our new recruits will be joining us for our first dive of the school year in Hilo Bay! We are very excited to continue to expand the program with a great group of new SeaSTARS divers!

We're 1 year old!
1 year ago yesterday, the MOP diving initiative, SeaSTARS, debuted with their first dive in Hilo Bay! After a years worth of surveys and scientific diver training, we are excited to see where the next years will take us! Mahalo to all who have supported us and contribute their time and energy to our program!

On Saturday, September 10th, the SeaSTARS kicked off the semester with a round of surveys at Wai'olena in Hilo, HI. We are excited for another semester of surveys as the program continues to grow and develop.

The UH Hilo SeaSTARS (Sea Surveying, Training, and Response Squad) headed into Hilo Bay this past weekend to survey the effects sedimentation has on coral health due to the dredging of the channel. Mahalo nui loa to the UH Hilo boating program for taking us out on the Makani! 🐠
