For most of his life, Troy Branco-Liu never imagined leaving Lahaina.
But after the Maui wildfire upended his community and a University of Hawaiʻi scholarship opened a door he never expected, the Lahainaluna graduate found himself starting over at Hawaiʻi Community College on Hawaiʻi Island — pursuing an education that would ultimately change the course of his future.
Congratulations to the new Hawai’i CC Diesel Mechanics Program graduate, Troy Branco-Liu, the first in his family to graduate from college! 🎉🎓

Fifteen UH faculty members from across the state have been awarded the Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching, and three received the Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Research.
In addition, six UH teachers have been recognized with the Frances Davis Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.
Ho’omaika’i to Hawai’i CC assistant professor of Hawai’i Lifestyles Pele Kaio and Culinary Arts coordinator Chef Shawn Sumiki, who have been recognized by the University of Hawai’i for excellence in teaching this year!
