The Virginia State Fair is coming up later this month!
Any FFA member interested in trying out for Forestry Field Day - 2 person crosscut saw, bowsaw, log roll, water accuracy, or pulpwood throw should come see Mr Webb this week! - contest is September 29.

Also, any member interested in Forestry judging - tree id, measurement, etc. - practice starts Thursday, September 10 after school until 5:00.

Open to all Agriculture or Horticulture students this school year!

✔️Helped with the Ag Fair for CCPSD elementary schoolers Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday
✔️Volunteered at the fair in the barn yard every night of the fair

We are so proud of each of our students who laid it all out there in their contests this week. These students push themselves out of their comfort zones and learn something new with each contest. Not to mention, they're always willing to try out a new contest as a spot filler. Thanks to everyone who supports, participates, and encourages!!

Monday morning, we loaded up 19 of our FFA members to head off to State Convention. Of course, we had to incorporate a local agriculture related tour. We try to work with local business, farms, and community members to highlight the diversity, accomplishments, and agriculture related careers in our area.

This year, we stopped by Jennings Farm JF to learn about the importance of high quality management and stewardship of both land and animals. While we were on our tour, we discussed rotational grazing, forage crop production, the importance of quality genetics, hybrid vigor, forage crop harvesting, government programs available to farmers, equipment and farm safety, and beef cattle production. A special thank you to Tia and Ethan for opening their operation up to us for a quality learning experience. We appreciate you for willing to give students a glimpse into real-world agricultural experiences!

We've had a very successful convention thus far. Stay tuned for a comprehensive post for contest results towards the end of the week!

‼️‼️‼️PLANT SALE UPDATE: We have decided to extend our hours! We will now be open Saturday, May 16th from 8 am to 12 pm AND Monday through Friday 2:30-5:30 pm next week!‼️‼️‼️

Join us May 11-15th for the CCHS Annual Plant Sale!

Students have been working hard to prepare high quality plants. This year, students were able to start several plants from seed to produce their own plugs. This process has taken the entirety of the semester and has been quite labor intensive, but boy are they beautiful!

Let us do the hard work for you! Swing by the greenhouse located at CCHS anytime between 2:30 and 5:30 May 11-15th!
