Today I had the pleasure of leading workshop sessions at UVSO with their dedicated preschool teachers and teacher assistants!

Together WE GROW is all about collaboration — teachers, assistants, and families working hand-in-hand to support every learner. It was truly inspiring to share experiences, exchange strategies, and build stronger connections that help our youngest learners thrive.

🎶 Music/Dance: Play lively salsa or mariachi music and invite children to move with scarves or instruments

🎨 Art: Create papel picado with tissue paper, or make flags from different Hispanic countries

🍎 Food Exploration: Taste test fruits like mango, papaya, or plantains and talk about where they grow

In the whirlwind of glitter, glue, and giggles, every Pre-K teacher knows… heroes don’t always wear capes—sometimes they carry extra snacks, wipe little noses, and make sure every child feels safe and loved.

🐾 The Benefits of Classroom Pets 🐾

Classroom pets teach children:

Responsibility – Feeding, cleaning, and caring for a pet builds good habits.

Empathy – Pets help children understand and respect the needs of living creatures.

Teamwork – Students work together to care for their pet, building cooperation and turn-taking.

Curiosity – Pets spark questions about science, nature, and the world around them.

Calm & Comfort – Animals can create a soothing classroom environment and reduce stress.

PETS should be carefully chosen and cared for with student safety in mind.

When the world looks into a classroom, they often see smiling teachers sitting on the carpet, reading a story, handing out crayons, and singing songs with a group of happy children.

But what we are really doing goes so much deeper.

🌱 We are planting seeds of confidence and curiosity that will grow for years to come.
👀 We are scanning the room every second to keep each child safe, cared for, and included.
💛 We are tending to big feelings — calming tears, celebrating victories, and teaching children how to use their words.
🧠 We are carefully guiding each child’s learning journey, noticing the little breakthroughs that no one else might see.
✏️ We are documenting progress, not for ourselves, but so families know just how proud they should be of their child.
👐 We are giving children more than just lessons — we are giving them a safe place to belong, to make mistakes, and to grow.

What the world sees might look simple, but in truth, it is sacred work. It is the work of shaping little humans into kind, capable, curious people who will one day shape the world themselves.

So, the next time you see a teacher sitting on the carpet singing a song, know that their heart is holding an entire classroom’s worth of dreams — and they are giving those dreams the best chance to bloom. 🌸
