We have lecture, table tops exercises and real life practical training. We use real farm equipment and the tools you would find on your rescue trucks.

We are almost packed up and ready for the Farm Safety for Kids class at Newaygo County Fairground on Saturday May 16th at 09:00. I can’t believe all the stuff I fit into my truck and on the trailer.

We will be providing the following stations for the kids to learn farm safety

1. Flowable grain safety where the students will participate in the loading and unloading of flowable grains using an auger. They will learn how safely work around a grain bin and recognize dangerous situation pertaining to flowable grains

2. The new farm tools station. The students will learn general tool safety and how to properly use tools they may find on the farm. They should be ready to assist in many farm projects once they complete this station.

3. Farm chemicals and proper decontamination that needs to take place if exposed to any chemicals on the farm. They will learn how to use the chemical label to determine the chemical and next steps in an exposure

4. First Aid for kids where they will learn first aid that pertains to farm accidents and a quick summary of CPR. They will discuss calling 911 and the special circumstances of farm emergencies

5. Tractor Safety. They will participate in a lawn mower obstacle coarse taken right from the fire services emergency driving course. Who will make it through all the cones without hitting any.

We are proud of this program and partnering with the Newaygo County fair to provide this class to all interested children. This is a great refresher as the farming season begins and kids begin to work on the farm this summer.

For more information on having a class like this in your area please email or call and we can discuss options and other service we offer.

Day 2 at Clam Union TWP Fire Dept.
The day was cloudy and cool but at least when it rained it was a quick light rain. Thank you to the sponsor of lunches both days and the farmer who let the group tour his farm on short notice and to who supplied us with the grain wagon for one of our stations. A big thank you to brought the skid loader to make unloading and loading our equipment easier.
Thank you for having us!

Day two started off with some rain but the weather is holding and the groups are moving through the stations. We always enjoy the classes that are eager to learn and put their knowledge into practice.
