Con Ed is so boring… or is it?

Not at Durham Tech! This Tuesday we hosted our monthly Spotlight Con Ed and boy was it EPIC!

Dr. Pahresa Roomiany and Dr. Neil Stafford from Duke Hospital came and taught POCUS and even had models so the students could do live cardiac Ultra Sound!

Our next presenter, Arjun Putcha, is a UNC research Fellow who presented on Pulse Oximetry research.

The last presenters of the evening joined us (virtually) from Alaska and presented on Emergency Care in “hospitals in the bush” as well as search and rescue. Huge thank you to Dr. Scott Owens and Dr. Erica Deisam.

We could not be more grateful to each presenter. We look forward to seeing you on 9/15, 10/13 and 11/17 for future Spotlight classes.

The first challenge was to make it through the Paramedic Trail! They accepted the challenge.

Our Paramedic Class kicked off with an adventure on the Paramedic Trail! They traversed difficult terrain while demonstrating their ability to assess and manage airways. They navigated the trail flawlessly! No dysentery, fallen oxen, or broken wagon wheel! We are very excited for this cohort. Wish them well!

How many paramedics does it take to unjam a paper shredder? Hopefully we will have it back up and running before Fall semester starts next week!

(The paper shredder got jammed with 9 sheets of paper… but can a letter opener. 🤣)

Look at what our students were playing with!

This is our new Simbulance. Our sim operators are inside the control room, watching students treat our high fidelity manikin in real time. See those joy sticks? They make the ambulance bounce “up and down the road.” And is it really even entertainment if there isn’t a huge viewing screen for the rest of the class to learn from?

Fall semester is only a week and a half away! Come Do Great Things!
