The Hillsborough Memorial Day Parade, Carnival, and Music Festival took place on Monday! From students, families, alumni, educators, parent groups, and district leaders, HCSD showed up in a big way to celebrate, connect, and honor the meaning of the day together.

We loved seeing this year’s APG award recipients, Grace Leung and Alec MacKenzie, riding in the parade with their families, alongside local leaders and cherished community members.

Trustees and Superintendent Ana de Arce even rolled down the parade route together aboard a boat with bubble machines, spinning pinwheels, and plenty of school spirit along for the ride.

Thank you, Town of Hillsborough, for this joyful reminder of what makes this place so special: community, connection, and coming together across generations
❤️🤍💙

Still smiling about this BIG moment for Team Tanzi! HCSD’s Facility Dog Program was recently honored with a 2025-26 Kent Award by the San Mateo County School Boards Association, recognizing innovative and impactful programs that support students across our county.

From calming nerves and building connection to bringing comfort, confidence, and joy to our campuses, Tanzi has become such a special part of our HCSD community.

Looking stunning in her bows, Tanzi graciously accepted her award and commendations from our elected leaders with a perfectly timed bark that delighted the crowd, as Trustees and Superintendent de Arce cheered her on during the ceremony.

Congratulations to Nicole Narlock, Alice Bobel, Director Regina Piper, and of course, our award-winning girl, Tanzi!

A week of surprises, celebration, and community at its very best!

We’re thrilled to share this year’s Award recipients: Grace Leung, the 2026 Citizen of the Year, and Alec Mackenzie, the 2026 Community Care Award recipient.

Grace’s work through RISE has helped shape a culture of belonging across our district, where every child and family feels seen and supported. Her reveal took place at the RISE Egg Hunt, a joyful, deeply inclusive event that reflects her impact, surrounded by family, friends, APG, trustees, and RISE families past and present.

At Crocker, Alec creates spaces of connection and belonging for students and colleagues alike, helping people feel heard, valued, and inspired. He was surprised at the CPG Staff Appreciation Luncheon, with students, colleagues, parents, site leaders, trustees, his loved ones, and even Vinnie the Viking joining in to celebrate a beloved educator and colleague.

The Associated Parents’ Groups look forward to honoring and celebrating them both on October 15, 2026. More from these special moments will be shared in next week’s HCSD Friday Newsletter.

🎶 A first for HCSD!
Our inaugural 5th Grade Instrumental Music Concert brought all of our fifth grade students together for a lively and joyful performance at Crocker.

Just months after launching this new program in October, students are already building a strong musical foundation that will carry into the Crocker music program. Made possible through the generous support of HSF, our community, and our district and site leaders, this initiative gives every 5th grader access to instrumental music.

Bravo to our students and music educators: Jay Beams, Diana Gremett, Suki Jang, and Andrew Lu, for a fantastic first performance. We can’t wait to watch this program grow!
