Our TK class is deep into our robot study, and recently we had a very special visit from one of our dads, Ruben, who introduced us to the world of self-driving cars like WAYMO 🚙
He showed the children how these cars “see” using cameras, radar, and LiDAR, just like we use our five senses to understand the world around us. To bring it to life, he built a line-following car (a light sensor car) for the children to explore.
The kids designed and tested their own roads, experimenting with how the car stays on track and moves forward. We wrapped up the experience by calling a Waymo car and seeing it in person, such an exciting moment!
So much curiosity, problem-solving, and real world learning all in one day. Thank you, Ruben, for sharing your time and creating such a meaningful experience for our young engineers 🤖

We created art using different shades of green, made leprechaun traps, delivered Irish soda bread to our neighbors, and were visited by some very sneaky leprechauns who left a mess and lots of gold. Hope everyone had a fun St. Patrick’s Day!

This week at Highland, we’re celebrating Read Across America Spirit Week. Each day we pair one of our favorite books with a themed dress-up day, and yesterday was Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. 🌴 Hawaiian shirts, leis, sunnies, coconut tree handprint art, our students looked so cute.
Happy Reading Week from Highland Montessori!

As part of our robot study, a TK parent joined us for circle time and introduced the children to simple circuits. With batteries and propellers, the children experimented, tested, and watched their model cars come to life.
Welcoming families into the classroom as collaborators is so valuable in the children’s learning journey!

We celebrated Día de los Mu***os today through stories, art, and shared experiences. The children created calaveras de azúcar (sugar skull) collages, enjoyed face painting inspired by traditional calavera designs, including the half-skull style, and shared pan de mu**to together. It was a meaningful way to learn about honoring loved ones through joy, color, and connection.
Thank you to Ms. Heidi, Ms. Cyrley, and Ms. Jazmil for planning such a thoughtful and hands-on day for the children.

As we approach the end of the school year, we find ourselves reflecting on all the fun and heartwarming memories we’ve made—and at the core of so many of them, we have you, our incredible parents, to thank. 💛
We’re so grateful for your involvement—not just when it’s time to celebrate a birthday or cheer on a Star Student—but in all the moments in between.
To the parents who help us organize activities, volunteer their time to chaperone nature walks, surprise us as mystery readers, and bring in unforgettable experiences like face painting, In-N-Out burgers, bubble shows, sponsored lunches, ice cream days, and more—you fill our days with joy!
Our community is built by you. Your time, creativity, and heart make our school feel like home. Thank you for being such a special part of the Highland family! 🌟🏫

Off we go on our morning adventure!
We made it to Washington Park where we enjoyed some donut holes, and ran wild in the big open field! ☀️
Big energy, big smiles, and now… big naps.
Huge thank you to our amazing parent volunteers—Nabilah, Liz, Stephanie, Ilke & Stacy—we’re so grateful for your extra hands and eyes! 🙏🏻🥰
