The Cherry Blossom Montessori School Private Montessori school serving children ages 16 months through 6th grade. Academic preparation is not our only goal.

We are a community of students, parents and faculty defined by and committed to the four pillars of our mission; excellence, universal values, global understanding and service to others. We develop social skills, emotional growth, global citizenship and responsibility and physical coordination. We encourage the development of self-esteem, self-motivation, enthusiasm for learning, and being closely bonded to our community and the world. ✏️ Before children learn to write letters, they first prepare the hand for writing.

The Montessori Blue Board may look simple, but it builds an important foundation. Through matching and tracing geometric shapes, children develop visual discrimination, hand-eye coordination, concentration, fine-motor control, and the ability to follow a precise path.

As children trace, they practice the controlled movements and purposeful repetition that later support forming letters and numbers.

Our Older Elementary students worked alongside our wonderful art teacher to create this beautiful representation of our school logo for our main entryway.

It has been such an honor to see the work of our students greet our families each and every day.

Little hands. Big thinking. 🌱

In Montessori, Sensorial work begins with a simple idea: children learn through their senses.
For our Stepping Stones, materials invite children to touch, compare, sort, match, grade, listen, observe, and explore. They are building the ability to notice differences, recognize patterns, organize information, and make connections—all while working with their hands.

But the impact doesn’t stop in Stepping Stones.

✨ Today: “Which one is bigger?”

✨ In Primary: “Can you grade these from smallest to largest?”

✨ In Elementary: “Can you identify the pattern, analyze the relationship, and apply it to something new?”

The concrete experiences of the early years become the mental framework for abstract thinking later on.

At the beginning of a new school year, we don’t just build routines—we build community. 🤍

And circle time is where so much of that begins.
In Montessori, gathering together gives children a chance to connect, listen, participate, and discover that they belong.

🌿 We practice taking turns.
🌿 We listen to different voices.
🌿 We build language and confidence.
🌿 We celebrate our classroom community.

In Montessori, birthdays offer children a beautiful opportunity to recognize the passage of time, reflect on how much they’ve grown, and celebrate the unique person they are becoming.
For children born during the summer months, we celebrate their half birthdays during the school year, making sure they have the same special opportunity to be recognized and celebrated alongside their classmates. 🤍

Through birthday celebrations and classroom traditions, children learn that their presence matters and so does the presence of every child around them.

It’s a small tradition with a meaningful lesson: we celebrate you, and we celebrate one another. ✨

Independence Begins With the Prepared Environment.

One of the most beautiful things about a Montessori classroom is that the environment itself communicates:

“You are capable of being here.”

The shelves are accessible.
The materials are organized.
The furniture is appropriately sized.
The child can reach what they need.
There is a designated place for materials.
The child can move through the environment with purpose.

This is intentional.

Rather than creating an environment where an adult must constantly say:

“I’ll get that for you.”
“Wait, I’ll do it.”
“Don’t touch that.”
“You need me to help.”

Montessori asks:
“How can we change the environment so the child can participate?”

That is a profound shift.

A child who can independently retrieve their work, carry it to a table, complete it, return it to the shelf, and choose what comes next isn’t simply practicing classroom routines.

They are practicing their confidence surrounding choices.

An authentic Montessori environment is designed to support independence through accessible furniture, purposeful materials, freedom of movement, and logical limits.

The “Inner Cup” of Independence
If the child’s inner cup is being filled, independence says:

“I am capable.”
“I can try.”
“My choices matter.”
“I can solve problems.”
“I can contribute.”
“I don’t always need an adult to do it for me.”

And importantly, Montessori independence isn’t about expecting a young child to “figure everything out alone.” It is carefully supported independence.

The adult prepares the environment, demonstrates the skill, establishes appropriate boundaries, observes the child, and then gradually steps back so the child can take ownership. Montessori describes the prepared environment as a fundamental condition for this freedom and development.
