Good byes are so hard...
He graduated high school and had a senior solo piano recital three days later. 75 minutes of jazz, classical, worship, contemporary and original compositions. I'm so proud of him.

He's one of the most amazing humans I've ever known. I would say he's taught me as much about life as I've taught him about music. I say I want to be like him when I grow up.

It's hard to know I won't be seeing him walk in my studio each week. I miss them all like crazy when they leave...
Happy Graduation!! Your college is blessed to have you! I already miss you and it's only been a few weeks.

Teaching both youth and adults for the past 43 years I can attend to the truth of this. My “youngest” complete beginner was 84 years old complete with handle bar mustache. Part of the delight for him was presenting me with a cheeseburger from the local Dairy Queen each week and insisting I take the time to eat at the beginning of his lesson . As a young teacher in the first 5 years of my career, I didn’t realize the value spending an hour each week with me each week added to his life. He bought himself the instrument of his dreams and was thrilled with each and every note he learned to play. I taught him right until the week he died at age 95. I sobbed at his funeral and I have never forgotten him.

I see the same wonderful things with my current adult students. I see the joy, the frustration, the celebration, but most of all I see the brilliant working minds of these amazing adults who are beginning the journey into their golden years. I’m not sure if their is a better, life enriching, fulfilling thing to offer them. It is both an honor and privilege to teach them.
