History came to life today at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.

Several Hillsboro High School students joined more than 1,100 students from across the area for World War II Reenactment Education Day. It's an opportunity to experience history far beyond the pages of a textbook.

Students got an up-close look at what life during World War II may have been like, from communications and artillery to military equipment, field hospitals, mess tents, sleeping quarters and tanks. They also had the opportunity to talk with reenactors, ask questions and learn from people dedicated to preserving this history.

We are proud our students have access to experiences like this right here in Jefferson County and grateful to everyone who makes opportunities like this possible for students throughout our region.

Sometimes the best way to understand history is to step into it.

We would like to correct an error made by Leader Publications in the October 15th Voters Guide. The estimated tax levy will be approximately $4.7338 per $100 assessed valuation if Proposition H is approved on November 3, 2026. The Leader erroneously reported the district tax rate of $4.8271 should Proposition H pass.

Here is the correction provided by The Leader Publications that will be in next Thursday, October 22nd's paper.

Correction:
The estimated operating levy of the Hillsboro R-3 School District will be $4.7338 per $100 assessed valuation should a $1.39 tax levy, known as Proposition H, be approved in the Nov. 3 general election. This figure is based on 2025 tax rates. Furthermore, should the ballot measure pass, the Hillsboro R-3 School District would have the third highest tax levy in Jefferson County, behind the Dunklin R-5 and Windsor C-1 school districts. An incorrect figure based on 2026 tax rates was listed in a previous story. The Leader apologizes for the error.

Did you know? On a daily basis 242 ag CTE students visit the farm on a daily basis, 7th-12th grade. Three days a week we host an extra science class. Throughout the school year hundreds of Hillsboro students will visit at various times. April-May we will not only have our regular 242 7th-8th graders but will also book up almost EVERY single day with other Hillsboro district buildings.

More Than Coworkers. We're Family. đź’™

Some days remind us that being part of a school is about so much more than what happens inside the classroom.

Today, our staff came together to show love, strength, and support for one of our own.

Through life's toughest challenges, one thing remains certain: No one in our Hawk family stands alone.

We are more than a staff. We are a family. đź’™

ROLL UP A SLEEVE. HELP SAVE A LIFE.

We talk a lot about what it means to be part of the Hillsboro R-3 community. On Friday, November 6th, here’s a chance to show it.
Hillsboro High School is partnering with ImpactLife for a community blood drive, and we’re inviting students and members of our community to take part. One donation can make a very real difference for patients and families who need blood.

🩸 Friday, November 6th
⏰ 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
📍 Hillsboro High School: Gym 2
123 Leon Hall Parkway

Hillsboro High School will coordinate sign-ups for students. Community members can schedule their own appointment using the link in the comments or the QR code on the graphic.

And there’s a little something for donors, too: every donation earns rewards, with several options available after you give.
Be part of something bigger. Give blood. Help someone who needs it.
We’ll put the appointment link in the comments below.

WE WANT YOUR FEEDBACK!

Hillsboro R-3 parents and guardians, please check your Infinite Campus messages and email for your invitation to complete the 2026 School Climate and Culture Survey.

Your feedback helps us understand what's working well and where we can improve to make our schools even better for students and families.

The survey is confidential and voluntary. It is administered independently by the University of Missouri and the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Students in grades 3–12 and district employees will also be invited to participate.

Results will help guide future school improvements and will be shared with our community.

Please complete your survey by Friday, Nov. 6th.

Want to preview the questions? Sample surveys for parents, students and staff are in the comments section.
