Last week Suffern Middle School welcomed incoming sixth graders and their families to their new school. Students learned how to open lockers, walked the halls to map out their classes and learned all about the policies and procedures of the school from Principal, Dr. Druss.

Congratulations Dan Muller and Kevin McCarren!

On Thursday, we celebrated two Suffern Central educators who were recognized through Suffern Rotary’s Excellence in Teaching program, an award that puts students’ voices at the center. Each year, graduating seniors are invited to nominate a teacher who inspired them or made a lasting difference in their lives. This year, 22 nominations were submitted, with several teachers receiving multiple nominations.

This year’s honorees:

Dan Muller, Suffern High School Math Teacher

One student shared how meaningful it was that Mr. Muller made an effort to use Spanish to help students better understand what they were learning.

“He always made an effort to help us understand better.”

For Dan, that connection is at the heart of teaching. As an ENL teacher, he understands what it feels like to navigate a different language and tries to meet students where they are.

“I like to take five minutes in class to say, ‘Hey, how are you doing today?’ … and let’s work to accomplish these goals together.”

Kevin McCarren, 5th Grade Teacher, Montebello Elementary School

One former student described Mr. McCarren as the “very first teacher who made me feel seen.” She credited him with fueling her love for reading and writing and helping her believe in herself as a learner.

For Kevin, the recipe is simple: keep it light, show up every day, have fun with learning and, most importantly, make connections.

“To hear this resonated with her is so rewarding.”

Congratulations, Dan and Kevin, and thank you to Suffern Rotary for continuing to celebrate the educators who make a difference, one student at a time.

This year's Mountie Minds Advisory Council will tackle some of the District's biggest decisions, including the facilities bond referendum and the NYS Portrait of a Graduate initiative, in small-group conversations with the Superintendent and administration.

Mountie Minds is a citizen advisory council open to parents, non-parents, staff, students, community leaders, and business owners who reside within the District. Now entering its fifth year, the group has helped shape District thinking on everything from elementary restructuring to curriculum planning.

It was a packed house this morning at SuffernHS as our school counselors held their first workshop for seniors and their families - all about the college admissions process.

The common app is now open, but what do all those terms mean? We’re here to help! From Early Decision to personal essays to financial aid - Suffern High School will prepare you for those deadlines.

Registration for our fall athletics season is now open for all Varsity and Junior Varsity athletes (High school students). Please visit the athletics page of our website to sign up! Tryouts begin in late August and all students must upload a recent physical with their registration. Students will then be cleared by the school nurse.

Modified sports registration (grades 7-8) will begin on August 10.

Fall sports are:
Cheerleading, Football, Cross Country, Volleyball, Soccer, Field Hockey, Girls Tennis and Girls Swim

Thank you lohud for your showcase of our art room at Sloatsburg Elementary School. This project is a student and staff favorite as it ties in so many lessons, including how students see each other, positive self-talk, artistry, and so much more!

Sloatsburg Elementary School second-graders created identity self-portraits in June before the academic year wrapped up. Take a look at the project.

Hey, Suffern Central families! We have a new principal at RP Connor, Mr. Paul Tryon.

Students and staff at RP Connor welcomed Mr. Tryon to the building before the end of the school year and asked lots of questions to get to know him.

It may be July 1, and summer break... still, we're celebrating our June Artists of the Month, and our final for this school year. We want to congratulate these talented students for their creativity, dedication, and artistic growth. Their imagination, perseverance, and willingness to take creative risks have helped them stand out both in and out of the art room.

We are incredibly proud of all of the students who have been recognized as Artists of the Month throughout the year. Each one has demonstrated that art is about more than creating something beautiful—it's about problem-solving, perseverance, and finding the confidence to share their unique voice with the world.

To all of our student artists: keep creating, exploring, and imagining this summer. Whether you're drawing, painting, building, designing, or simply seeing the world through a creative lens, we can't wait to see what you create next year.
