To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, students from Suffern High School’s Herencia Latina club visited RP Connor for a special read aloud and craft, to teach our younger students about Hispanic culture and celebrate the diversity in our District.

🚀 Hands-on Innovation in Action! 🛠️

Our 7th grade Discovering Digital Technology students are putting the engineering design process to the test! Partnering with our Project-Based Learning (PBL) Coach, Mr. Wojehowski, students are taking hands-on learning to the next level using modular Infento kits to build real, life-size rides from the ground up.

Building with these life-size construction sets isn’t just about turning bolts—it’s about:

Teamwork & Collaboration: Communicating, delegating roles, and solving real-time assembly challenges together.

The Engineering Process: Testing designs, analyzing mechanics, and iterating to turn raw components into functional builds.

STEM Skills in Motion: Bridging digital concepts with physical, real-world application.

We can’t wait to see these student-designed creations roll into action!

On Monday, October 19, join more than 50 organizations to learn about supports for your child with an IEP or 504 plan. Explore resources for education, recreation, training, employment, advocacy, and supports for now and in the future.

Organizations in attendance include: OPWDD, ACCESS-VR, college readiness programs, recreational programs, college disability offices, and many more community-based services. Translators will also be available if needed.

Our students are FIRED UP about safety🔥🚒

The Sloatsburg Fire Department visited Sloatsburg Elementary School on Wednesday to share important safety tips from, “Stop, Drop and Roll,” to evacuation plans and the importance of smoke alarms. Students even had the opportunity to climb inside the trucks and spray the hoses.

Thank you Sloatsburg Fire Department for an educational and memorable lesson in fire prevention and safety!

While our underclassmen were hard at work taking the PSAT today, our Seniors spent the morning taking major steps toward their futures!

Today’s Senior Workshop Day was packed with high-value sessions to prepare the Class of 2027 for graduation and beyond. Seniors participated in:

🎓 College Prep & Applications: Hands-on support with Common App & SchoolLinks, drafting college essays with teacher feedback, and learning financial aid/FAFSA strategies from admissions pros.

💼 Career & Life Readiness: Resume building, mock interview practice, and exploring the Seal of Civic Readiness initiative.

💡 Life Beyond Graduation: Interactive sessions on essential life skills, personal relationships, and well-being.

🧘‍♀️ Mindfulness & Mental Health: Unwinding with yoga, creative art sessions, and a very popular visit from Cody the therapy dog during Paw Therapy!

Celebrating National School Board Recognition Week!

Strong schools start with strong leadership, and this week, we’re taking a moment to recognize and thank our seven Board of Education members for their time, dedication, and commitment to the Suffern Central School District community.

In New York State, school board members play an important role in shaping the future of public education. They establish district policies, adopt the annual budget, set goals and priorities, and make decisions that support student learning. They also serve as a vital link between our schools and the community. Serving on a school board is a commitment that extends well beyond board meetings. It means listening and asking questions and making decisions with the long-term success of students and schools in mind.

To Roxanne Bryan, Tom Donnelly, Jennifer Hodge, Marlo Dickman, Jason Andert, Darrell Frasier, and Paul Shapiro (pictured L to R), thank you for the countless hours you dedicate, the thoughtful conversations you lead, and the care you bring to serving our students, staff, families, and community. Your service makes a difference, and we are grateful for the role you play in helping our Mounties learn, grow, and thrive.

Calling all parents and school-aged children!

Join Suffern High School student artists for a Halloween-themed Paint Night on Wednesday, October 14. Event registration is open until Tuesday evening. https://bit.ly/Shspaintnight

Cost is $20 for one parent and one child, $5 for each additional family member. All proceeds go to the scholarship fund.

Just a quick look at Wednesday night’s Navigating our Schools event at Suffern Middle School. Families from all across the district joined us to learn more about attending our schools, how to use our various student information platforms, the importance of attendance, and so much more!

In addition to our school staff, we had multiple community organizations attend and share their resources with our families.

Special thanks to our Parent Liaison Silvia Namnun and Family Resource Coordinators Socorro Clemente, Mariela Gutenberger and Denise Kane for their dedication to this district and its families.
