Playing in the snow isn’t just fun—it’s a powerful, whole-child developmental experience!
❄️⛄ Here are some of the key benefits:
❄️ Gross Motor Development
Walking, running, climbing, sledding, and jumping in snow all challenge balance, strength, coordination, and endurance. Snow creates natural resistance, helping build lower-body and core strength.
❄️ Sensory Processing
Snow offers rich sensory input—cold temperature, changing textures (powdery, crunchy, wet), and visual contrast. This helps children learn to tolerate, interpret, and regulate sensory information.
❄️ Body Awareness & Motor Planning
Uneven, slippery surfaces require kids to adjust movements in real time, improving proprioception, spatial awareness, and problem-solving (“How do I move without slipping?”).
❄️ Fine Motor Skills
Scooping, packing snowballs, building snowmen, and using mittens or gloves all strengthen hand muscles and coordination—especially important for developing grasp and dexterity.
❄️ Executive Function & Self-Regulation
Cold weather naturally slows kids down and requires planning (layering clothes, pacing movement, staying safe). Following rules, taking turns, and managing frustration in tricky conditions support emotional regulation.
❄️ Social Skills & Creativity
Snow play invites collaboration, imaginative play, and shared problem-solving—building forts, making tracks, or inventing games together.
❄️ Confidence & Resilience
Navigating a challenging environment helps kids build confidence, adaptability, and persistence when things don’t go exactly as planned.
Snow turns the outdoors into a giant, fabulous development boosting gym—supporting strength, regulation, creativity, and connection all at once 🌨️💙

1. A child digs a trench and shares an idea. 2. Other children join in and develop the idea. 3. They are motivated to execute their idea. 4. Everyone joins in to support the idea and its ex*****on. 5. A water filled trench becomes a pond, then a lake. 6. Others add to the environment. 6. In the meantime, another group children were involved in creative play in our "outdoor kitchen" which turned into a pancake house and bakery! 7. The result... A beautiful, authentic, natural, fun-filled day! We love our summer camp days!!!

Our staff wishes to send a HUGE thank you to all of our Learning Tree families for absolutely spoiling us this week. From a beautiful luncheon (that lasted all week), gorgeous flowers, sweet cinnamon goodies, bagels, to extremely generous gift cards (that we will put to very good use), we were showered with thoughtfulness. We are so lucky to have the best parents / families! We whole-heartedly appreciate your support,, kindness, and generosity. We love being your children's first teachers!
