Natural consequences! So effective!

⭐️Logical consequences are a discipline strategy used to teach children about the outcomes of their actions in a way that is directly related to their behavior. For example, being required to pick up toys after making a mess. This video provides different examples across different situations and age ranges. 👉These are different from natural consequences, which are the outcomes that directly follow a child’s behavior *without* any action being required from others. For example, a child gets cold if they refuse to wear their sweater. (We recently posted a video with examples of natural consequences if you want to check that out!) 📌Both of these are separate from punishments, which may be arbitrary or unrelated, and are simply giving or taking something away in an attempt to change behavior. 🏠Consequences are one small aspect of effective parenting. There are 3 elements that are essential for effective parenting: 1) a close, secure relationship between parents and children, 2) parents actively teaching their children what TO DO, and 3) holding firm boundaries, giving effective consequences, and providing clear expectations. Teaching a true tripod grasp starts small—literally! 🖍️ Snap a crayon in half and give kids the short piece. With less length to wrap their whole hand around, they naturally pinch with thumb, index, and middle fingers instead of a fist or four-finger grip. This quick trick went viral (and sparked debate) because I said the tripod is the gold standard. Yes, some adults write comfortably with other grasps, but this three-point hold gives little hands the best control, reduces fatigue, and sets them up for smoother handwriting later on.
