Beginning to Advanced Level Study of Piano My objective in teaching piano is first and foremost to instill in the student an appreciation and love of music.

In doing so, I strive to meet the following goals:

* Teach the student to read music and understand the importance of a steady beat and proper timing
* Teach the student good posture and hand position while stressing the importance of clean, curved fingers at the piano
* Help the student become a good listener and learn the importance of proper phrasing, dynamics and expression when p

Today’s reel has no music-but we can see students “doodling” at the piano. We can almost hear what is going on, our mind imagines the sound. After all, it is the young students hearing or imagining a musical tidbit in their mind that brings their hands to the keys. doodler. Doodling is said to be something between awareness and daydreaming which can lead to new creative ideas. We might put it in the “file” as related to the very first steps into improv and composing.
