Our students are getting a fun, hands-on look at all kinds of careers! So far, we’ve learned from doctors, nurses, professionals in the technology field, therapists, and a professional in the bull riding field—with more special guests still to come! 👩‍⚕️🩺💻🐂

Career Week is a wonderful way for our students to ask questions, make connections, explore new interests, and discover the many possibilities that are out there!

Most preschool-age children ask dozens of questions every day. The way adults respond to those questions shapes how children think.

At Ivybrook Academy, our educators respond to curiosity with curiosity. Rather than providing answers, they ask questions that push thinking deeper. Rather than correcting, they invite investigation.

This is one of the foundational principles of the Reggio Emilia approach: the educator as a collaborator in learning, not a dispenser of information.

When children experience their questions being taken seriously, they develop the confidence to keep asking them. That is where critical thinking begins.

At Ivybrook Academy, our Individualized Learning Groups allow us to meet each child where they are and continue helping them grow as learners. 💚

Throughout the year, we introduce academic concepts and skills based on each child’s age, developmental readiness, and individual needs.

Some children may master a skill quickly, while others need more time and practice. And that’s okay! We continue to revisit learning objectives and provide opportunities for children to build confidence and understanding.

✨ For us, mastery means demonstrating a skill independently, without prompts, on three separate occasions.

We also share learning objectives with families throughout the year so you can see what your child is working toward and support their learning at home.

Every child learns at their own pace. Our job is to meet them there—and help them take the next step. 🌿

One of the most important things we protect every day is time.

The Montessori work cycle gives children an extended, uninterrupted period to choose their own activities and work through them at their own pace. No transitions cutting off a child mid-thought. No moving the whole group before some of them are ready.

This structure is intentional. Young children need time to get settled, find their focus, and go deep.

The Reggio Emilia approach adds another layer: while children work, our educators observe and document. Those observations shape how the environment is set up, what materials are introduced, and how each child's learning is supported individually.

At Ivybrook Academy, the work cycle is not a scheduling choice. It is a developmental one, and the learning that happens inside it goes both ways.

Considering Afternoon Sessions?

This surprises a lot of parents: young children learn in short, intense cycles with significant processing time between them. They take in new experiences during focused engagement, then integrate what they absorbed during unstructured play and the quieter time that follows.

That rhythm does not belong to any particular hour of the day. Some children wake slowly and learn better in the afternoon.

We offer afternoon classes, because we believe in meeting each child where they are. If where they are is "ready to learn at 1pm," the program should be there too.

What does an Ivybrook afternoon actually look like?

‣ Arrival and settling into the classroom at their own pace

‣ Project-based learning that draws literacy, math, science, and the arts into one thread

‣ Nature-inspired activities that build observation skills and a feel for how things work

Learning how to navigate a disagreement is one of the most important skills a child develops in preschool.

At Ivybrook Academy, socialization is not left to chance. Our educators intentionally create opportunities for collaboration, and when conflicts arise, they guide children through the process of expressing their feelings, listening to a peer's perspective, and finding a resolution together.

These are not skills children are born with. They are practiced and developed over time in an environment that treats social-emotional growth with the same intention as academic learning.

Not every child learns by sitting and listening, and our curriculum reflects that.

Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences identifies distinct ways children process and understand the world: through language, logic, spatial awareness, music, movement, nature, interpersonal connection, and self-reflection.

At Ivybrook Academy, this theory is not just something we reference. It actively shapes how our educators plan and individualize instruction. A child who learns best through physical movement will explore a concept differently than a child who gravitates toward visual or musical expression.

Our educators spend more time observing than instructing. They document each child's progress to understand how that individual learns best. They design provocations, carefully chosen materials that invite children to investigate rather than follow directions.

This intentional approach means that no two children receive the same experience, because no two children need the same thing. It is individualized education built on close observation, professional expertise, and genuine respect for each child's developmental timeline.
