Restoring what our families had in past generations it can be one of the more beutiful things we have experienced. Children weren't designed to grow up isolated from adults who get know them deeply. As a community including:
Grandparents.
Neighbors.
Older children.
Babies.
Teachers.
Families.
because communities shape childhood.
That's why we believe education is bigger than a classroom.

Creating a space where children can experience is not just beautiful it is necessary. When we set up the environment we keep in mind that the world moves fast.
Childhood shouldn't have to.
We slow down enough to notice the ladybug...
To finish building the fort...
To listen to a friend's story.
Because the moments that seem "small" are often the ones children remember forever.

Do you get excite like I do when you hear "I'm bored."
While most adults hear those words and immediately search for something to entertain a child. I will let you in some insight.
Boredom is often the doorway to creativity.
It's the moment when a stick becomes a fishing pole, a cardboard box becomes a spaceship, and an insect becomes the most fascinating discovery of the day.
At Aprenden Play, we don't rush to fill every quiet moment. We leave room for imagination to take over.

Are you like me cheering for the brave soul that decided to dunk their feet in mud or climbed the tree to get the other children the fruit they couldn't get themselves? As much I wan to belive that cheering dose a lot of work, children don't become confident because we tell them they're brave.
They become confident because they've climbed the log...
Solved the problem...
Helped a friend...
Tried again after falling.
Confidence is built through experiences. It's not the words that keep them growing it givign them the space to try.
That's why our environment is designed to give children opportunities to take healthy risks every single day.

Over the years I have felt the pressure to give children a head start. It has become a quite race. Walking into some classrooms we children with:
More flashcards.
More worksheets.
More structured activities.
But childhood was never meant to be rushed.
Children don't fall behind because they spend time playing. The reality is that they fall behind when they lose their curiosity.
At Aprenden Play, we protect childhood because curiosity is the foundation that makes learning last.

Have you wondered why classrooms are set to have all children the same age? Think about it. We work alongside people younger than us, older than us, and those with different experiences. That's how communities grow.
Yet somehow, we've accepted the idea that children should spend nearly every hour of their day with children born within months of each other.
Going from a typical classroom to a a mixed-age group I realized that these groups communities look different.
Older children naturally become leaders. Younger children find a child who they spire to be. Everyone learns patience, empathy, communication, and confidence because every child has something to teach and something to learn.
At Aprenden Play, we intentionally create opportunities for children to grow together. Not because they're the same age, but because they're part of the same community.

Are you doubting a mix age group. THINK ABOUT IT LIKE THIS. We don't spend our lives surrounded only by people with the same age. We work with younger colleagues, learn from experienced mentors, share ideas with people from different backgrounds, and grow because we adapt to the diversity.
Yet somehow, we've come to believe that children learn best only when grouped by birth year.
But let me tell you what I have experienced in my home base preschoo. The greatest gifts of a mixed-age gorup is the community it creates. I get to see them work as a group when:
🌿 Older children naturally develop leadership, empathy, and patience as they explain their thinking and care for younger peers.
🌿 Younger children are inspired by what they observe. They see what's possible before they're expected to do it themselves.
🌿 Children learn to communicate with people who think, speak, and solve problems differently than they do.
🌿 Every child has opportunities to be both the learner and the teacher, building confidence in their own unique strengths.
🌿 Curiosity becomes something shared. A single insect on the table isn't just one child's discovery. It becomes a conversation where every perspective adds something new.
Growth doesn't happen because everyone is the same.
It happens when children belong to a diverse community where they listen, wonder, share ideas, and learn from one another every single day.
That's the kind of childhood that is built in Aprenden Play.

The presence of the third teacher is not in decoration, but in materials that invite interest, offer multiple purposes, and a space that allows children to move with intention.

We don’t need more toys. We need more intentional environments.
It’s one thing to explore in the light…
but when the lights dim, the experience changes.
Focus deepens.
Curiosity grows.
The same materials begin to feel new again.

Are they creating stories with the figures?
YES. Every interaction a child has in play is intentional. Play is how children express what they are understanding, feeling, and needing.
In this moment, one child chose to place the smaller figures in the center, surrounded by the larger ones. When we slow down and truly observe, this arrangement begins to tell a story.
What I see is a sense of protection, of closeness, of being held within a community.
Children often communicate their understanding of relationships through play. How they see others, and how they see themselves within that world.
This kind of representation can reflect a growing sense of security and belonging.
At Aprenden Play, we value these moments. Rather than directing the outcome, we observe, interpret, and support what is unfolding because this is where children are constructing meaning.
