Start with Parent Orientation and Meet the Teacher! These are a great chance for grown-ups to hear what to expect and for students to meet their teacher, see their classroom, and feel more comfortable before the first day.

Swipe through for schedules, car line reminders, ways to stay connected, important dates, and a few simple ways to help your child get ready at home.

As Ready Readers Boot Camp comes to a close, we asked our teachers one simple question:

"What is the one piece of reading advice you hope every family remembers?"

Swipe through to read their answers.

We hope these tips become part of your family's everyday routine because the greatest reading growth doesn't end when camp does. It happens during bedtime stories, grocery store trips, library visits, and all of the little moments in between.

Thank you to every family who trusted us with your child these past two weeks. It has been a joy watching our young readers grow in confidence, strengthen their reading skills, and develop a love of books.

Parents: Please check your email for our end-of-camp survey. Your feedback helps us celebrate what worked well and shape an even better Ready Readers Boot Camp for next summer. We truly appreciate you taking a few minutes to share your thoughts.

We can't wait to read with many of you again soon.

This year, we said goodbye to two very special members of the DKH Academy family.

After 25 years at DKH Academy, Mrs. Sheryl Edwards has retired. Although she officially retired after her 20th year, we were lucky enough to convince her to come back for one more year... which happily turned into five! Over the course of her career, hundreds of children have learned, grown, and been loved in Mrs. Edwards' classroom. Her kindness, patience, and dedication have left a lasting mark on our school community. We wish her all the best as she begins this next chapter filled with family, travel, and plenty of time with her 5 grandchildren.

We also said goodbye to Mrs. Laura Hudson after 10 years at DKH Academy. Laura began her journey with us as a substitute teacher and grew into one of our most beloved educators. This spring, she was recognized as our 2025–2026 Teacher of the Year, an honor that reflects the impact she has had on her students, colleagues, and families. Laura has been a mentor, a friend, and an encouragement to so many within our school community, and she will be deeply missed.

Please join us in thanking Mrs. Edwards and Mrs. Hudson for the love, dedication, and countless lives they have touched over the years. Once you're part of the DKH family, you'll always be part of the DKH family. We wish them both every happiness in the adventures ahead.

As we get ready for another wonderful school year, we wanted to share a little good news. Our classrooms are fully staffed with an incredible team of teachers, and we're excited for the year ahead!

We're also looking to grow our substitute teacher team so we're ready whenever a teacher or classroom support team member is away.

If you're a retired educator, a college student studying education, returning to the workforce, or simply someone who enjoys working with young children and is looking for a flexible opportunity, we'd love to hear from you.

Our substitute teachers become a familiar face on campus, building relationships with students and supporting our teachers. Many of our substitutes have even become full-time members of the DKH Academy family when future opportunities opened up.

You can learn more about the position, review the job description, and apply online here:
www.dkhacademy.org/about/employment

If someone comes to mind who would be a great fit for the DKH Academy community, we'd be so grateful if you'd share this post with them.
