Dear District 112 teachers:
I have spoken or seen many of you in the past few days, and have heard so many sad and terrifying stories. I have also heard stories of courage, hope, and determination. Some of you are struggling to understand and process the senseless act of violence that injured so many of our students, families and community members both physically and psychologically. We are mourning the loss of 7 individuals who all had some connection to our schools or towns.
The drop in counseling sessions have been amazing and certainly have had an impact. I know many of you have been at our schools to either get support or give support. There have been others who still cannot fathom coming back to town and seeing the artifacts that are lining the streets of downtown HP.
In order to give teachers a chance to connect with one another, there will be an opportunity for staff to come together on Monday, July 11 at Greenbay school from 10 am -3 pm. There will be open areas to see all of your district colleagues, and specific rooms for each school to gather. There will be counselors on hand for individuals or groups. There will be dogs to pet. And there will be food, food and more food.
I still do not have the right words to really describe the events that day....It was terrifying, surreal, unbelievable. I am constantly trying to wrap my head around how we will start the school year, what short term and long term impact this will have on our kids and our teachers. When will grief bubble up? When will it come pouring out for each individual? I know we will find the answers to these questions together.
If you are not ready or able to come to Greenbay on Monday, please know you are not alone and we have every resource available for you. Of course, you can always reach out to me as well.
I will be there from 10 am - 3 pm in the event that you want to pop in and say Hi.
I hope you find peace and relaxation this weekend.
Sheri
