Welcome to the Academy of Art of Highland Park!

WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL?
We’re Celebrating our 27th Anniversary in February 2025!

JOIN OUR COMMUNITY OF CREATIVES!
Our community of child, teen and adults creatives is almost at capacity! 2024-2025. Join us with your unique love of what we share in common–the visual arts!

HOW-NOW?
We are easy and fun but we are not recreational. We do not enter the visual arts as an activity, but as a practice all its own. Our studio pedagogy is deep and rich and our teen studio is an honors program. We seek students of all ages with age-appropriate learning skills, or higher.

We are heartbroken that we can no longer offer the following beloved services since the 2020 pandemic:
Free lessons for special needs students
Remedial teaching for any age
One-on-one teaching for children 5 to 6 years old.

At the Academy of Art of Highland Park, all practitioners begin with Drawing. Sure, you can privately discuss with Chief Instructor Ana why you would wish to skip this gorgeous practice! Maybe you can convince her! In Drawing, we explore five types of supports, 11 different media, a plethora of techniques, and over five art forms of the many that comprise drawing.

We do not offer flavor-of-the month short courses; your course begins when you join the studio, and ends if and when you leave, or when you complete the syllabus. We have over 12 years of syllabi for numerous courses you to advance through. We teach you and every person of any age individually, in small groups, from the moment we meet.

The core syllabi that follow Drawing are: Watercolors, Oil Painting, and Acrylics, in that order.

We also offer discreet courses in Color Pencil, Inks, and Fabric Collage. College-bound teens ages 13-14 who can attend across their high school years at 2 hours/week can partake in our winning portfolio program! That’s where they create unique portfolios for their college track. And we work with any track—not only only for engineering, architecture, art and design, though of course we have expertise at those, too!

SEATING AVAILABILITY

ADULTS (18 and up, live studio only)
2 seats on Wednesdays and 2 seats on Thursday, for 1, 1.5 or 2 hour classes, across the span 10am to 12 noon.

TEENS (ages 13-17, live studio only)
6 seats for teens (1 hr, 1.5hr, or, for portfolio, 2 hrs)
(Tues 4-5, Wed evenings 6-8, and/or Thurs 7-8)

CHILDREN (ages 7 -12)
Live studio: 5 seats Tues, Wed, or Thurs, 4-5pm, Fridays 4-5pm
Online: 6 seats across Mondays or Fridays, 4-5pm
Total beginners totally welcomed!
Our only entry requirement is a smile!

Why is Annie Extraordinary?
Anne does a lot of cook things: she engages in advanced martial arts, origami, and fiction writing, for example. And she joined our community of creatives at age 6. Here at the Academy of Art of Highland Park, she progressed through many courses and levels of advancement and sealed it with her studio portfolio experience. She continued to exercise her powerful imagination and studio skills to make artworks, infographics, and 3D artifacts centered on themes in computer science. We know she’ll continue to use many of her studio superpowers to make advances in CS!
