ARK OF LEARNING NEWS

With the COVID-19 impact on childcare centers and minimum wage increases looming, some daycare are faced with the unavoidable reality of fee increase that will make childcare cost prohibitive for some families.

Daycare providers are not funded by NYS and do not receive basic retirement incentives or health care that school districts enjoy. Centers are at the mercy of each family enrolled and big changes in enrollment over a short period of time can threaten the existence of any program.

The decision to remain open has become a lively discussion amongst many daycare owners in light of the past year and upcoming increases in cost.

The article below highlights what is already happening further north of us and what has started happening in our community with the recent closing of The Learning Experience Daycare in Monroe, NY.

Regional advocates say the COVID-19 pandemic is taking a big toll on an already weak child-care system. And by the numbers, it's home providers that are closing their doors for good.
