One Last Gathering... One Last Lesson.

This past Saturday, our Kentucky University Vietnam Study Abroad group came together one final time to reconnect, share stories, and celebrate an experience that none of us will soon forget.

Hosted by Professor Eagles at NKU, the group enjoyed a Vietnamese lunch and a visit to Jungle Jim's, where students and community partners were introduced to many of the foods, spices, coffees, and ingredients we encountered throughout our journey in Vietnam. It was a wonderful reminder that some of the best parts of travel can continue long after we've returned home.

While this luncheon marked the official conclusion of our first-ever Northern Kentucky University Vietnam Study Abroad program co-led by the Northern Kentucky University: History Department and Veterans Resource Station, it was far from an ending. The friendships formed, perspectives gained, and memories created will remain with us for years to come.

What began as a study abroad experience became a community. Students, veterans, faculty, staff, and community partners traveled together as strangers, but returned as friends.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this historic journey possible. The trip may be over, but the connections we built—and the lessons we learned—will continue to shape us long into the future.

Until the next adventure...
Vietnam 2026 will always hold a special place in our hearts.

We're Home — But the Journey Continues.

Our historic Northern Kentucky University study abroad experience in Vietnam has officially come to a close, and what an incredible journey it was. Thanks to Professor Eagles at NKU and the Northern Kentucky University: History Department we had an epic adventure!

Over the past several weeks, students, veterans, faculty, staff, and community partners immersed themselves in the history, culture, and people of Vietnam. We explored historic sites, engaged with local communities, experienced a new culture firsthand, and gained perspectives that simply cannot be replicated in a classroom.

What made this experience special wasn't just where we traveled—it was who we traveled with. The conversations, shared experiences, and relationships built along the way transformed this trip into something much greater than a study abroad program.

Participants consistently described the experience as eye-opening, impactful, and transformative. Many shared that seeing history firsthand, engaging with diverse perspectives, and stepping outside their comfort zones led to personal and academic growth that will stay with them for years to come.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make this groundbreaking program possible and to every participant who embraced the adventure with curiosity, humility, and enthusiasm.

As we reflect on everything we learned, we're already looking toward the future.

If you've ever considered studying abroad, expanding your worldview, or experiencing history and culture in ways that can only happen through travel, we hope you'll join us on the next journey.

The trip may be over, but its impact is just beginning.

Week one of our Northern Kentucky University study abroad to Vietnam with Professor Eagles at NKU - opening eyes, minds, perspectives, and learning about Vietemeese culture, religion, and food. Happy Green Zone Brigade Day at Kentucky University!

Today, our campus shows up in a big way. You’ll see specially trained faculty, staff, and administrators rocking their Green Zone Brigade shirts — a visible commitment that our military-affiliated students are seen, supported, and set up to succeed.

We kicked things off in style last night — huge thanks to Ryan Heckmuller and G3 Marketing for helping make the Zac Brown Band private event unforgettable. Our students and their families got a night they won’t forget anytime soon (and yes… the bar has officially been raised).

Today, I’ll be holding it down in the Student Union — handing out reminders to recognize those who are serving, those who have served, and the families and supporters who carry the mission alongside them. We’ll also be talking about real-life transition barriers and how we, as a campus, can step up and remove them.

Then we roll straight into the MARS (MP 230) Open House — swing by, grab some cake, and check out one of the most unique veteran support hubs you’ll find anywhere.

This is what the Norse community does — we don’t just say we support… we show it.

Earlier this week, Miranda from our NKY SMP team trained a group of student and faculty veterans and military-affiliated community members on identifying and preventing healthcare fraud and consumer scams targeting veterans at NKU Veterans Resource Station. Attendees were encouraged to spread this information far and wide among their networks to increase local veterans' and supportive agencies' awareness of these schemes.

Thanks so much to Dr. Mardis at the VRS for organizing this event!
