Congratulations to our colleagues on the publication of "Student Experiential Philanthropy: Investing Time, Talent, and Treasure into the Community"! This book focuses on the Mayerson Student Philanthropy Project at Northern Kentucky University, showcasing innovative teaching practices and highlighting outcomes of this community-engaged initiative.
The book was edited by three professors and administrators connected to NKU: Dr. Megan Downing (Political Science, Criminal Justice, & Organizational Leadership), Dr. Shauna Reilly (Outreach & Engagement), and Dr. Kajsa Larson (formerly World Languages & Literatures). A number of other NKU professors (current and former) wrote chapters about using student philanthropy in different ways and across various disciplines, including public administration, organizational leadership, world languages, social work, communications, marketing, English, history, music, computer science, and kinesiology.
Dr. Julie Olberding, MPA Director and Professor, contributed two chapters to the book. She wrote a chapter on the "indirect giving" model, which involves a class partnering with a foundation or corporation and students evaluating real grant applications and making funding recommendations. Also, Dr. Olberding co-authored a chapter with Dr. Downing that examines "e-student philanthropy" in fully online classes across multiple disciplines, using data from both students and faculty.
