Sustainability is the practice of shared stewardship of resources, both natural and human-made, to create and maintain healthful, equitable, livable, and fiscally responsible communities both locally and globally. Environmental sustainability is the responsibility of all members of the campus community and is fundamental to the University's mission of education, scholarship, and engagement.

We are happy to share that NKU's newest residence hall has been awarded LEED Certified status!

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is one of the most popular green building certification programs worldwide. LEED buildings reduce the environmental impact of a building on the outside while also incorporating occupant health features on the inside. The new residence hall is NKU's fourth consecutive LEED-certified building.

Today was a fun day! As part of Campus Sustainability Month, we hosted an electric vehicle car show in collaboration with Drive Electric Cincinnati. We love hosting these car shows because it provides a direct experience with EVs and helps dispel some of the misconception and worry around EV ownership. We had faculty, staff, and students stop by to explore the cars and chat with the owners. Many students were taking pictures and asking questions about the vehicles. The event was a huge success. 😁

Special thanks to Drive Electric Cincinnati for their collaboration on this event. Also thanks to the EV owners who volunteered their time and vehicles. And thanks to Wired-AV for providing the sound system that helped enhance this event even more. Btw, we ran the PA off the power of the Ford F150. How cool is that. 😎

Campus Sustainability Month continues! This week we're featuring student artwork made out of cardboard that was collected on campus. The theme of the artwork is around consumption, the environment, and spirit animals. You can find all the pieces scattered throughout the Student Union, now until Oct 20. Let us know which one is your favorite!

Thank to the labor crew for their assistance with this project. And special thanks to professors Gary Sczerbaniewicz and Joshua Maier who developed this project for their students to get them thinking more about the environment and humans impact on it. Also thanks to Ben Huber who helped to coordinate and organize this project.

NKU's Environmentally Concerned Organization of Students performed a litter clean up this week as part of Campus Sustainability Month. They targeted the river area in Newport, an important site to clean up so that trash does not make it into our waterways. Great job ECOS in making our world a little cleaner and healthier!
