This picture has a double meaning for me. It represents one of the many things COVID-19 took from me, and it also represents the beginning of COVID-19. February last year was the first time I heard the dreaded word: COVID. When all of those people were stuck on that cruise ship, I would never think that a mere month later, I would be just as isolated as them. Flash forward to a month later, and I’m waking up from a well-deserved nap to hear that I am receiving an extended spring break. For any high school senior, that is the best news in the world. Then, as the extension grew, my apprehension did as well. I just lost the last half of my senior year. Prom, Senior trip, senior week, and the final lap around the school quickly turned into a pipe dream. Looking back at the past year, I have realized that even though I lost a lot from this virus, I was still able to make the most of it. We have come a long way from stay-at-home orders and the fear of leaving our quarantine bubbles. There were many days where I lost all hope and then raised my spirits when I found creative ways to spend time with my friends and family. I was also able to make new friends at NKU that have made this crazy school year a little more tolerable. As we’re rounding to what I hope is the potential end of the virus, I can’t wait to get back to normal, like going on a cruise where I can feel the ocean breeze and watch the sunset on the boardwalk.
