KY FLL Team's Response to Innovation Project Question:
There have been some recent questions sent to us regarding the Innovation Project. In the SUBMERGED Engineering Notebook (relevant section shown below), FIRST describes the Project to “Identify and research a problem related faced by people who explore the oceans” and suggests that during the course of exploring your ideas teams may find “solutions applicable to life on land.” In Kentucky, our understanding of FIRST’s wording is that as long as a team can show that they learned something about exploring the oceans that sparked their idea for their problem/solution, then their Innovation Project would meet the requirements.

Tournament partners in Kentucky will be instructed to have judges follow this interpretation to allow project solutions applicable to any location (ocean, lakes, rivers, land, etc.) as long as the team can share how their ocean research sparked their project selection.
