Northern Kentucky University student, LeaAnn King, is being honored at the Outstanding Women of Northern Kentucky Awards Luncheon as a Nancy Janes Boothe Scholarship recipient. The event is being put on by the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, celebrating 40 years of honoring women who exemplify notable achievement, outstanding service in their professions or to the Northern Kentucky community.

LeaAnn is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Minor in Neuroscience. After putting higher education on hold to take on the role of mom, she is now focused on setting an example for her children and encouraging the mentality that it’s never too late to follow your dreams.

Dr. Chris Curran's students are gaining hands-on research experience by collecting soil samples and environmental data around a local recycling facility. Their work is providing crucial information to assist the community and EPA in addressing pollution concerns - an excellent way for Northern Kentucky University to train the next generation of environmental scientists!

River Metals Recycling is moving its shredding operations to Cincinnati. But community members say there are other concerns. Many are worried about the environmental impact of RMR’s operations.

It features NKU Biology Professor Kristine Hopfensperger, who researches reviving wetland ecosystems. Exciting day at NKU as we hosted local Girl Scouts for 'Doctor for a Day' event! Our Anatomy and Physiology sessions offered an immersive dive into the complexities of the human body. From hands-on demonstrations to interactive learning, the girls explored the wonders of anatomy, igniting curiosity and inspiring future healthcare leaders. Kudos to our dedicated faculty for fostering a passion for science and medicine in the next generation!

Emma Foster, NKU Outstanding Neuroscience graduate in 2020, did a summer research fellowship in the Howard Gendelman lab as an undergraduate and is now pursuing her Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Emma is part of the team developing a cellular therapy to treat Alzheimer's Disease.
