It’s always sad when it’s the final week of study abroad…but it was still a fun and full week for the Tudor History in London class! They explored and toured a replica of Francis Drake’s Golden Hinde ship on which he circumnavigated the globe; took a walk in Shakespeare’s steps along the Thames; had a final exam review session at Coal Drop’s Yard; and said farewell with delicious Indian food! And all while experiencing a record-breaking UK heatwave!
What a wonderful experiential learning opportunity and a great group of students!

Today HPU students had a once-in-a-lifetime study abroad experience! Dr. Allen’s Tudor History in London class visited the special limited exhibit “Elizabeth I: Queen and Court” at the Philip Mould & Company Gallery. They were even lucky enough to meet Ellie Smith, Associate Director at Philip Mould, who provided insights on the exhibition and key paintings. The majority of the paintings on display are held in private collections and rarely in public view. The exhibit underscores what students have been learning about the power of image for Tudor monarchs and sets up their last week focusing on Elizabeth’s reign. What an incredible experiential learning opportunity! Thank you for welcoming us and curating a fantastic exhibit!

It was a cold but lovely weekend exploring in Edinburgh for the Tudor History Maymester class! On Friday they explored Old Town history and its Tudor links during a walking tour followed by a delicious group dinner. Saturday provided 1000 years of Scottish history at Edinburgh Castle with strong links to the transition of power from the Tudors to Stuarts. A great trip to a new country learning even more cool Tudor history!

Hampton Court Palace is always an experience! Today students in Tudor History in London traveled to Henry VIII’s palace with 5 of his famous wives and where his three children (Edward, Mary, and Elizabeth) would also live when they ruled. Tudor imagery is reflected from ceiling to floor in each room showing visitors how the Tudors relied on image to secure their power. Experiential learning in a beautiful setting!
