People are your greatest asset.✨

That powerful message was at the center of an inspiring visit from Mr. Johnny C. Taylor Jr., President and CEO of SHRM and HPU’s Human Capital Expert in Residence.

Through a keynote presentation, a fireside chat moderated by Business Administration and Management student Hailey Crouse, and a classroom Q&A session led by Professor Ken Crews, students gained valuable insights from Mr. Taylor on leadership, talent management, workplace culture, and the future of work.

Key lessons included:
👥 Human capital is a strategic advantage and one of an organization’s most valuable assets.
🧭 Career paths are rarely linear. Adaptability, resilience, and continuous learning are essential for success.
💬 As Al transforms the workplace, human-centered leadership, critical thinking, and relationship-building remain more important than ever.
⚖️ Long-term success requires investing in both professional growth and personal
well-being.

Thank you, Johnny C. Taylor Jr., for investing in our students and helping prepare the next generation of leaders.

Connections = Opportunities 🤝

PSB students recently attended our annual Meet the Firms event, networking with local and national accounting firms to learn about internships, career paths, and opportunities in the profession. Events like these help our students build meaningtul connections and take the next step toward their future careers.

How can students become the front-row version of themselves? 🌟

Marlyn Sherman, High Point University’s Personal Development Expert in Residence, Hall of Fame speaker, and bestselling author inspired students to step outside their comfort zones and take intentional action toward success.

The Q&A was moderated by Business Administration and Pre-Law student Abbey Potter, who shared several lessons from Ms. Sherman that made a lasting impression:
✨ Own your seat with confidence and purpose.
⏰ Manage your energy, not just your time.
🤝 Find a mentor, advocate, and supporter who can help you grow.
🌱 Remember that leadership can begin before you have an official title.

Abbey reflected that these ideas provide students with a practical framework for becoming more productive, pursuing their goals, and building relationships that can support their future success.

Thank you, Ms. Sherman, for encouraging our students to show up with intention and choose the front row in their education, careers, and lives!

Learning accounting by exploring campus! 👀👣

Students in the Learning Community practicum course connected to ACC 2010 Financial Accounting took a tour of HPU to identify items that would appear on the University’s balance sheet. Along the way, they strengthened their understanding of the difference between assets and expenses while seeing accounting concepts in action. 📊

🤖 How are students really using Al?

During a recent Student Al Panel, Dr. Nido Qubein sat down with graduate and undergraduate students to discuss how they are using artificial intelligence in their academic and professional lives. Students also shared what they need from their professors to better understand, apply, and lead in an Al-driven world.

The conversation offered valuable insights into how the Phillips School of Business can continue preparing students for the future of work.
