🐝As usual, kindergarten has been busy! A couple of weeks ago, they worked on Ann’s garden. While they took turns digging, they prepared posters and flags for their students versus parents games. This competition was a reflection of Sal, the character they were learning about in their literacy curriculum who loves sports!

This kind of community engagement, combining literacy, writing, creativity, service, and an appreciation for the natural world exemplifies the HPFS philosophy. Thank you Ms. Stephanie! ⚽️

Yesterday was World Quaker Day. Today, we joined Friends Seminary in a Collective Silence for Peace--a moment of silence at 9:35am in unison with Quaker schools around the country. This year's theme centered "Let Peace Be Among Us".

With their Falcon Friends, students from Pre-K through 8th grade completed 3 questions regarding their experience at a Quaker School, and what peace means to them.

Seeing both the common language and the unique perspectives each group brings is a joy to witness. We love being a small part of something much larger than us.

💧Last week, guest speakers from High Point’s Storm Water services visited 3rd and 4th grade science. They shared about how we have an impact on storm water runoff, ultimately affecting local ecosystems and our own well-being.

☮️ Monday was International Day of Peace, but we celebrated all week long. 3rd and 4th graders illustrated their own descriptions of peace—rainstorms, rivers, and peace as sweet as candy! Our k-2 students performed a song sharing peace with the rest of the school. And, our middle school students shared peaceful messages in origami creations to their younger Falcon Friends.

Aftercare didn’t let a little rain ruin their fun, instead enjoyed a peaceful walk when the playground was too slippery.

We love our sweet community! ✌️

🍄‍🟫7th and 8th grade students in Dr. Harper’s class are studying mycelium.

Each group has a control bag that contains typical ingredients for growing mushrooms: moisture, decomposing matter, and of course, mushroom spores. They also have a second bag in which they’ve placed a mystery variable of some sort along with those items: a log, yogurt, a rock. Over the next several weeks, students will complete their lab reports, testing their hypothesis about what happens with their mystery variables present. They will collect data through note taking and sketching their observations over time.

And yes, this is a smelly, messy, and fun experiment! 😁

💗 Love makes all things grow in our kindergarten class. Last week, kindergarteners made new clay pots for their succulents, giving them more room to grow. Just like these plants, Ms. Stephanie provides room for our students to grow during the school year. We can’t wait to see what these students learn! 🪴

☀️Can you tell we are happy to be here? It’s not easy to get Pre-K to 8th grade to smile at the same time but we came close enough!

We had an amazing first week of the 26-27 school year at HPFS. We are so grateful to the families, students, and staff who contribute to this joyful place of learning. We are excited for what’s ahead. 🕯️

📓Summer is coming to an end and we are busy preparing for the beginning of the school year! 🧑‍🏫

We can't wait to see everyone on Thursday. Stop by your student's classrooms and meet teachers 5-5:30pm, and then head to the gym for a catered meal and an ice cream truck!

Then, we look forward to the first day of school on Monday, August 17. See you at 8am for an 8:15am start time. Good habits start now! 😊

☀️Thanks to everyone who volunteered this past weekend to beautify our campus. This act is a perfect representation of our SPICES at work. At HPFS we don’t just talk about our values, we let them speak through our actions.
