✨HPU Dance Faculty Spotlight✨

Meet Professor Emily Crofford! 💜

Emily Crofford has been teaching at High Point University since 2018. She earned her MFA in Dance from UNC Greensboro and her BFA in Dance Education from Kent State University. She is an artist, performer, choreographer, and educator whose research incorporates somatic and conditioning practices to enhance dancer training.

At HPU she teaches Exploration of Modern Dance, Dance and Popular Culture, and Dance Pedagogy. Her choreography has been featured at the Cleveland Dance Showcases, American College Dance association conferences, and To***co Roads Dance Productions. As a performer, she has appeared at festivals, including the American Dance Festival, and danced in Glass Animals’ music video, I Don’t Want to Talk (I Just Want to Dance), which was filmed in Winston Salem.

“I was born a mover, became an athlete by design, and a dancer through intuition.”

We are so beyond thankful for Emily Crofford’s passion, creativity, and guidance to our students and the HPU Dance community! And even her love for crazy socks!!!

✨HPU Dance Faculty Spotlight✨

Meet Professor Michele Trumble! 💜

Michele Trumble is entering her ninth year in the Dance Department at High Point University. She earned her graduate degree in Choreography from UNC Greensboro after discovering her love for modern dance in college. Throughout her career, she has enjoyed a variety of performance, writing, and choreographing opportunities that have allowed her to live and work in many places around the United States.

At HPU, she teaches Modern/Contemporary, World Dance, and Somatics & Kinesiology for Dancers. She also choreographs for department performances. She has performed and choreographed for multigenerational and multi-ability dance company in New Mexico and served as a critic and reviewer for Dance Chronicle, where she had the opportunity to meet and talk with artists such as Bill T. Jones and Victoria Marks.

“Outside of dance I am a wife, mother, yoga teacher, dog lover, devourer of poetry, space nerd, and environmentalist who allows Missy Elliott and Ani Difranco to live rent free in my head equally.“

We are so thankful for Michele Trumble’s dedication and leadership to our students and the HPU dance community!!

✨HPU Dance Faculty Spotlight!! ✨

Meet Professor Lindsey Howie, Director of Dance and Associate Professor of Dance at High Point University! 💜

Lindsey Howie joined the HPU Dance faculty in 2013 after beginning her professional dance career in Chicago and later perusing higher education. She has a MFA in Choreography from UNC Greensboro and a BFA in Dance Performance with a concentration in Jazz Dance from East Carolina University.

At HPU she teaches a variety of dance technique and theory courses, with a special focus on Jazz Dance. She also choreographs original works for dance performances and department musicals, mentors student research initiatives, and serves as the President of the North Carolina Dance Education Organization.

“Perhaps what I’m proudest of is the resilience behind the work. Through personal health challenges, including multiple surgeries and cancer treatment, I never lost sight of my students or my commitment to education. I love what I do. I am fiercely committed to dance, art, education, and history. Today, as the President of the North Carolina Dance Education Organization, I remain dedicated to inspiring the next generation of artists, fostering community through dance, and proving that passion, perseverance, and purpose can transform both programs and people. I believe deeply in the power of dance and the amazing work my students and colleagues do on a daily basis.”

We couldn’t be more grateful for Lindsey Howie’s leadership, passion, and dedication to our students and HPU dance community!
