They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, but this one is worth $150. Happy first day of school to North Hunterdon and Voorhees High School. Don’t forget to fill out your transportation waiver, if you will not be taking the bus.

08/11/2026

If your child will not be riding the bus to and from school, please reference the below communication regarding a new transportation waiver policy. This will not affect their eligibility to ride the bus for any activities or sports. Direct any questions you may have to Erica Nichols at [email protected]

Dear North Hunterdon-Voorhees Families,

As we prepare for the 2026–2027 school year, I am writing to share details regarding our new Bus Transportation Waiver Program.

Under New Jersey education law and District Policy 3541.1, parents/guardians of eligible students may elect to waive district-provided transportation services for the school year. Per Policy 3541.1, "Each school year a parent/guardian of a student who is eligible for transportation services under the law may sign a written statement waiving the student’s right to those services... For families that waive their right to transportation services and maintain that waiver for the entire school year, the parents will receive reimbursement in the amount of $75.00 per student that did not utilize transportation services for the entire academic year."

If you anticipate driving your student to school every day or if you have a student who will be parking at the school, you may benefit from this transportation waiver program.

How the Program Works

Complete and submit the Bus Transportation Waiver Form by AUGUST 26, 2026. Each child in your household is eligible for reimbursement. Please fill out one form for each student.
If the student does not utilize district bus transportation for the entire 2026–2027 school year, a check for $75 per student will be mailed to the parent/guardian at the conclusion of the school year.
The instructions to complete the Bus Transportation Waiver Form is available at the end of this document and on the district website.
Additional Information

Participation in this program is voluntary.
Families may reinstate bus transportation at any time during the school year by submitting the Bus Service Reinstatement Form.
Reinstating bus transportation permanently during the school year will result in forfeiture of the $75 payment.
Families experiencing a temporary hardship and requiring short-term bus transportation may be eligible to receive the payment.
Please allow several days for bus service reinstatement requests to be processed and scheduled.

Per the Superintendent - "Voorhees is currently in lockdown as a precautionary measure. All students and staff are safe at this time. We are working closely with local authorities and will provide additional information as soon as possible."

As a father who has children in the school, I understand the concerns that you may have but I also trust that the local authorities and administration are doing everything in their power to ensure that all students and staff remain safe. Please give those in charge the time they need to do their job per the protocols that are in place and refrain from overwhelming them with phone calls and people trying to go to the school.
