Kerr Horsemanship Centered in Hico, Kerr horsemanship strives to bring you quality horses and beginner friendly riding instruction. Please reach out about availability.

Specializing in western riding, equitation, trail riding, and more! Adult and children are all welcome to sign up for riding lessons. Riding lessons are taught in a small group setting or private. You can bring your own horse, or use one of ours. Lessons are one hour, specializing on horse ownership and beginners.

The 15 minutes before a lesson might look quiet...

But a lot is happening behind the scenes. 👀

Before riders arrive, we are:

🐴 Matching riders with horses
🎯 Reviewing goals
🧠 Planning exercises
🌱 Preparing the arena
🤎 Thinking about how each horse and rider can succeed

Every rider walks into the arena with different goals.

Some are learning their first steering cues.

Some are preparing for competition.

Some are simply trying to build confidence.

And every single one matters.

After every ride comes the important lessons too:

✨ Caring for your horse
✨ Untacking correctly
✨ Grooming and checking your partner
✨ Reflecting on what you learned

Horsemanship is more than riding.

It's responsibility.
It's patience.
It's respect.

Nervous doesn't mean incapable.

Every rider has felt it...

The butterflies before a ride.
The hesitation before trying something new.
The little voice saying, "What if I can't?"

But here is the secret:

Brave riders aren't riders who never feel nervous.

Brave riders are the ones who take the next step anyway. 🤎

Your horse doesn't need you to be fearless.

Your horse needs you to be:

Ever wonder what happens BEFORE the first rider steps into the arena?

The day starts long before the saddle goes on. 🤎

A typical morning at Kerr Horsemanship includes:

☀️ Health check on all the horses
💧 Fresh water and feeding morning forage
🧹 Barn chores (because horses don't clean up after themselves 😂)
🐴 Grooming and preparing lesson horses
🌱 Creating a plan for each rider's goals

Every lesson starts with a simple question:

"What does this horse and rider need today?"

Because great horsemanship isn't about rushing through a checklist.

It's about creating a safe, positive experience where both horse and rider can learn and grow.
