Lenoir-Rhyne University is a private, four-year liberal arts university with its main campus located in Hickory, North Carolina, and it is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Founded in 1891 as a college for teachers and ministers, it became a university in 2008. LR has a strong undergraduate program as well as a solid and growing graduate program. The Graduate School was started in the early 1970s and has grown to three campuses, over 24 programs, and over 800 students. In addition to the Center for Graduate Studies of Hickory, there is the Center for Graduate Studies of Asheville, NC, and the Center for Graduate Studies of Columbia, SC, which shares its campus with the Lenoir-Rhyne University Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary.
