Talk about Throwback Thursdays......I joined PTK all the way back in 1990! I was thrilled to get an opportunity to join a group of like-minded people. PTK taught me how to think critically through our Honors In Action projects. I made friends. We had all kinds of adventures going to regional conferences (Fred Petke, do you recall the missing fog lights?) I had the best advisors in the world, Jim Stonesifer and Allen Speer. I'm still learning from things they taught me ( one day I hope to be as awesome as they were). I love being part of CVCC's Beta Eta Delta chapter!
I joined PTK for three important reasons: community outreach, reputation, and scholarship opportunities. Each year, Phi Theta Kappa chapters can develop and execute two projects which are called Honors In Action and College Projects, that are meant to improve the college and/or help its students n some way. Although these projects require a lot of work (such as good research to find solutions, cooperation with the college itself, and creating a successful project that everyone appreciates of), with enough effort, it can create some of the best leaders that can improve the community around themselves. In order to identify these problems that need to be fixed, we will try to reach the community through events through CVCC, including Have a Dog with the Big Dawg, Fall Fling, Spring Fling, and others. After executing a project successfully with CVCC’s partners, a PTK chapter can also be awarded with a number of awards which are internationally recognized for the students and the club overall. The students who helped create the said project can also apply for a vast number of scholarship opportunities that they can use to fulfill their educational futures. In conclusion, I believe that PTK is a fundamental stepping stone that can create the next generation of successful leaders. Obblivignes Kanchanadevi Venkataraman, President
When I first received the email in my inbox that I was eligible to join Phi Theta Kappa I was excited because that meant that all the late nights had paid off. As I proceeded to read the email my excitement turned into reluctance when I saw that there was an $85 membership fee. I joined because I decided that I wanted to invest in my future and all the opportunities that came towards me. PTK also offers scholarships to join so I did not let that stop me and neither should you. Phi Theta Kappa provides so many opportunities for leadership and scholarships for active members. PTK opens doors for new friendships, and well lets say that drew me in. Mariana Angeles-Lemus, Communications Officer

Look for your Phi Theta Kappa Officers on campus this week. They are handing out fortune cookies. Inside of one is a scholarship to join Phi Theta Kappa!
I joined PTK for the scholarships that were available to me to be able to stay at CVCC. They also had the option of scholarships available if i were to transfer which is what i originally wanted to pursue but ended up changing my mind to be able to stay here at CVCC. I saw joining PTK as a great opportunity to not only make a few great friends but as an opportunity to get more involved in the community and in school.
