To kick off our 'Holidays Around the World' series, one of our ELCA scholars from Nigeria shares her Christmas and New Year traditions. Here's what Beulah would like to share with all of our followers:⠀
⠀
"I usually celebrate Christmas with my nuclear family. And since the new year is not far from Christmas, we usually go to my grandparents after Christmas Day to celebrate the new year with my extended family(paternal). I have a HUGE extended family, and I just love getting to meet my cousins, aunts and uncles at the end of the year. I don’t have a picture of it, but we would normally go to a church vigil on New Year’s Eve to pray for the coming year. We would yell “happy new year” to one another once it clocks midnight.⠀
⠀
One picture here shows me and my cousins years ago during a Christmas holiday (I’m the one in front, and my dad is the horse). Another shows one of the games we play at my grandparents place (that’s my dad, my uncle, and my grandfather). And the other shows one of the traditions in a local church - the story of how Jesus was born." ⠀
⠀
Comment below how you celebrate Christmas and/or New Year, and stay tuned for more traditions from around the world! Next up: Brazil.⠀

Happy LDOC from us! This semester has been one of the best with our amazing exchange students on campus. They have engaged in an unmeasurable amount of cross cultural interactions and will surely leave their mark on LRU. A huge shoutout to our GA, Santi, for getting these guys integrated into life on campus, making our IPAL program and Global Village full of fun and laughter (and getting these amazing gifts for our students who are sadly departing). We hope that all LR students got the chance to meet our internationals this semester and if not, look into joining us next semester! 🐻 @ Lenoir-Rhyne University

Did you know that semester study abroad opportunities often are the cheapest? Currently we have 8 students out for the semester that are either paying exactly the same tuition cost of LR, or less! Two of our students pictured here,Brian and Jose, took a short vacay to Spain because studying abroad for a semester offers you great weekend travel opportunities! If you want to know more about semester programs, come to our convo tomorrow at 10am in Belk!

Although there are still great things happening in Finland/Sweden with our Teaching Scholars, we want to highlight another great faculty-led trip that is currently in Italy 🇮🇹 Every year, a group of students are traveling through various parts of the country while studying Depth Psychology and Counseling Practices and of course they always make a stop at the Roman Colosseum 🌎 @ Colosseo

Our first faculty-led trip of the year is currently underway in Greece! Students took a tour of the Parthenon, among other amazing archeological sites, and then finished the night with a sunset dinner and a debrief session. Ask us how YOU can participate in a trip like this next year!

Have you always dreamed of traveling to Italy? If the answer is yes, then you’re in luck because we are offering a study abroad program that affords you the opportunity to see Florence and it’s surrounding areas of Siena, Pisa, Venice and many more! The trip will be led by Dr. Hope-Gill from our Asheville campus and the focus of this trip is to develop and/or enhance your travel writing skills. Although this has a writing focus, it is being offered as HUM 188 credit which any student can take! You could also opt to take the course for WRI 583 credit. Please note that there are scholarships available for this summer opportunity!!! DM us for more information about scholarships and/or this program! 🇮🇹
