What does it actually look like to teach a sight word? 👀
Let’s teach one from start to finish! This is Part 1.
First, we:
🔤 Introduce the word
🗣️ Sound it out
👀 Identify the “tricky” letters—the ones that don’t make the sound we expect
Then it’s time to SKY WRITE!
Have the student trace the letters in the air with straight arms and big movements:
🔊 Out loud
🤫 Whisper voice
🤐 Silently
That big movement adds another sensory pathway to the learning process and gives the brain more ways to practice and remember the word.
And remember: We’re not just memorizing a word—we’re building a memory for how the word is spelled.🧠✨
