Hearing good news from her children will always make a mom’s day.⁣

When her five-year-old comes running out of kindergarten, smiling wide and jumping up and down because she made a new friend…it will make a mom’s day.⁣

When her ten-year-old comes out of school beaming with pride because he did well on his math test after studying hard…it will make a mom’s day.⁣
⁣
When her fifteen-year-old scores a goal and helps her team win a big game…it will make a mom’s day.⁣
⁣
When her twelfth grader gets accepted to one of his top five colleges…it will make a mom’s day.⁣
⁣
When her twenty-something child gets her dream internship and calls her mom to share how excited she is… it will make a mom’s day.⁣
⁣
When her child gets down on one knee and proposes to the love of his life… it will make a mom’s day.⁣
⁣
When her child hands over a positive pregnancy test and shrieks, "we're pregnant," ... it will make a mom’s day.⁣
⁣
When her child calls her to report the baby’s healthy and weighs 7 lbs.…it will make a mom’s day.⁣
⁣
When her child sends a video of her own child cruising around the furniture and about to take his first steps…it will make a mom’s day.⁣
⁣
Children tell their mothers all their good news,⁣
because they know their mom's the one person in this world who will be genuinely excited for them.⁣
⁣
And it doesn’t matter how old her children are—one or sixty-one—hearing good news from them will 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 make her day.

A mom will always mother you.⁣

Even when you no longer need her to chase away your nightmares or sing a lullaby as she rubs your back to fall asleep.⁣
Even when you aren’t pulling on her clothes to get her attention or because you want “another snack.”⁣
⁣
Because no matter how old you get—⁣
how many times you turn down her invitations to bake cookies to go up to your room and “do your own thing"⁣
or make plans with your friends instead—⁣
you will always be her baby.⁣
⁣
And she’ll always be there.⁣
⁣
When you’re feeling lonely on a cold night in college…her warmth will follow you and embrace you into a hug.⁣
When you’re learning the world in your twenties and making so many mistakes…she’ll guide you through your emotions even at 1 am.⁣
And when you have kids of your own, she’ll be someone to lean on… so you don’t topple over when everyone in your family is leaning on you.⁣

No matter your age,⁣
her love will surround you,⁣
and carry you through when life gets heavy.⁣
⁣
Because you’ll always be her baby.⁣

It's a job that came with no prior experience.

There are no days off, and no sick days.

It doesn't come with a paycheck, even though you're always pulling overtime.

The entire world wants to weigh in on your performance review.

It often requires functioning at a high stakes level while completely sleep deprived.

Despite giving it your all, there's constant questioning of your ability; if you're doing enough, if you're doing too much.

There's no one right way to do the job. And the job requirements are ever changing.

It's one of the toughest jobs out there, and once it starts it's never ending.

And... I love it.

I love being a mom.
