The cadets will have their final POPAT in two weeks. The state comprehensive exam is less than four weeks away!

On this solemn day we remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives. Whether going to work at WTC or the Pentagon, boarding an airplane, patrolling their beat or working the firehouse, no one was prepared how this day would unfold.
Three hundred and forty three FDNY firefighters/medics and sixty NYPD/Port Authority officers made the ultimate sacrifice.
Those brave men and women ran toward the danger in an effort to save others. We remember and honor each of these brave public servants on this 25th anniversary of 9/11.

Class 85 cadets completed “Explosives & Hazardous Materials” and “Crowd Management” this week.
The class learned how to identify and respond to incidents involving hazardous materials.
The class also learned about the psychology of crowds and how to respond to mass gatherings and protests.
The cadets learned the effects of OC and CS tear gas and decontamination procedures. The cadets were exposed to both in order to understand the effects and their ability to continue their duties.

“Ethical Problem Solving” was the most recent topic of instruction for the Class 86 cadets.
Deputy Chief Young instructed the cadets on the common ethical dilemmas that officers may face. He also spoke about the duty of officers to intervene.
The cadets completed practical exercises where they were presented an ethical situation and had to respond appropriately. The cadets then completed the end of block written exam.

Class 86 completed “Techniques of Traffic Law Enforcement” with Sgt Anderson this week.
During the classroom portion, the cadets learned the proper procedures involved in conducting a traffic enforcement program. The cadets then moved to the driving track to complete practical exercises. The cadets completed known and unknown risk traffic stops during day and night conditions.

It was a great first day for the Class 86 cadets!
After Director Walker delivered the “Orientation” block of instruction, the cadets moved to the Tarlton Complex for their first physical assessment with Trooper Clark and HPD Officer Benfield.
The assessment consists of a vertical jump, bench press, sit ups, 300 meter sprint, push ups and a 1.5 mile run.
