The graduation ceremony was held tonight for Class 84. With friends and family in attendance, we celebrated the achievements of this great group of law enforcement officers.
The Conover Police Honor Guard presented the colors to begin the ceremony. Hickory Mayor Hank Guess delivered the keynote speech reminding the cadets to maintain a high level of integrity and treat the citizens as they would expect to be treated.
Awards were presented to the following cadets: Fi****ms: Austin Fry; Driving: Stewart Simmons; POPAT: Heath Bentley; Academic: Bryce Whinnery. The Stacy Speagle award for the highest grade on the state exam was presented to Bryce Whinnery.

We hosted deputies from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office this week for “Decision Making Driving Course.” The deputies utilized our new FAAC simulator.
The FAAC Simulator system immerses the student driver in simulated settings based on real-life situations. Used in a guided and imaginative way by an instructor, hazardous situations that occur infrequently as well as proper driving techniques can be taught in a clear, mindful manner. Students have the opportunity to associate muscle memory, reaction time, problem-solving, decision making and judgment at the same time.
If your agency is interested in simulator training, contact Assistant Director TJ Bates at [email protected].

Class 84 cadets recently completed “Patrol Techniques” with Sgt Anderson.
The cadets were required to respond to several scripted scenarios and take appropriate action based on the situation.
This is a capstone block for the entire program. The cadets had to use the knowledge gained throughout the last six months in order to successfully accomplish the task.
