Garage Works will be closed the last two weeks of December for Christmas Break. December 16th is a optional day for students.

We will be resuming the normal Tuesdays and Thursday schedule on January 4th.

Front end done and new brakes being added to the Ford.

Announcement by Fred @ Gilmore regarding the restarting of the GW program:

Hello Everyone:

We are finally ready to move ahead with the Visible V-8 Model Project!

There has been considerable delay due to COVID restrictions and other issues.

We will have an in person meeting at the Gilmore on Tuesday, the 19th of January at 5 p.m. in the Heritage Ballroom at the museum.

We will have distanced seating 6 feet apart and will require all of you to wear masks.

The purpose of this meeting is to:

1. Give you your V-8 Engine Model.
2. Give you tools and glue for the modeling process
3. Provide an introduction to modeling for you and explain how we will be proceeding with the projects.
4. After this initial meeting we will conduct further meetings via ZOOM
5. We will need input from you as to what time will work for the ZOOM meetings.
6. Looking forward to seeing everyone on the 19th of January in the Heritage Ballroom.
7. Please let me know if you have any questions prior to the time or if you are unable to attend.

We are fortunate to have two of our EDU Team members; Rick Cahow and John Lacko (both experienced modelers) to guide and teach you as we go through the project together. Thank you Gents!

It with sadness that we have to post that we learned on 10/29 that fellow Mentor El Engelter has passed away. For anyone that knew him - he will be missed. He made a difference to many in his journey and really worked hard to share his knowledge with many kids and adults alike.

Hi all, Fred Colgren Education Director from Gilmore has sent a update about the Garage Works plans moving forward.

Selectively copied and modified to fit the Facebook format from his email:

As you know at the end of last season the museum closed due to COVID and then as the school year started we postponed the start of Garage Work again due to all the uncertainty of the school year etc.

Recently we have decided to remain closed at least until mid-January.

HOWEVER:

1. We are planning on beginning a small project for all students that will, we hope this will be an enriching project for you. We plan on ordering a visible V-8 Engine Kit for each student in Garage Works.

2. Students interested in participating in the program are encouraged to reach out to Fred Colgren quickly so that the model can be ordered for each. You can reply to this post and I will will forward to him, or you can reach him directly at [email protected]

** This needs to be done quickly - the request was for the feedback by the end of this week ***

3. Once Fred has a firm number of returning students, we will order the engines and arrange a time for students to pick up their Engine Kits.

4. After this has been done will have a series of Zoom meeting (probably once a week) to discuss each stage of the building process and talk about each of the engine components. This will be a nice time for mentors and students to chime in as we discuss each engine part being assembled that week.

5. Before we start the process one of our EDU Committee members Rick Cahow will give everyone an overview on model building do’s and don’ts. Rick is a long-time member of the local model building club and he will get you started once the models are out in in your possession.
